Searching For Information- Symons-Kushner Family Of London #general

NASSON83

I am trying to find information on my great grandparents- Polly
(Pearl) Fineberg(?) Symons Kushner and Simon Symons Kushner. They
lived in the east end of London >from the 188OS until the early
194Os. My great grandmother, had 13 children and my grandfather
Henry Symons was the oldest of the crew. He was in the royal army
medical corps in war world One and saved 3O men on the battlefield
in France. My great grandfather made slippers for pavlova. Being
my great grandmother was an orphan, I understand it may be hard
to obtain information on her. If anyone has any information on
the above matter I would be very gratefull.

Searching- Kushner- Olitsky- Cashman and Fineberg.

Thank You

Easy way of understanding cousinship? #general

Saul Marks <saulmarks@...>

Dear All,

I've picked up the last couple of mails in the string on removed
cousinship etc.

I was taught that those who share a set of grandparents are 1st
cousins, i.e. starting with yourself, you go up 1 generation,
across to your aunt/uncle, & down 1 generation. Those who share
great-grandparents (up 2, across, & down 2) are 2nd cousins. Up 3,
across, & down 3 is 3rd cousins. The removed bit comes in when
there's a generation difference. The children of your 1st cousin
(i.e. up 1, across, & down 2) are your 1st cousins once removed.
This also goes the other way round, working for your parents' 1st
cousins (i.e. up 2, across, & down 1).

I think this follows what Michael Bernet said, but I'm not sure.
My French cousin views every up or down step in the up-across-down
procedure as a degree of "cousin-hood", e.g. 1st cousins would be
2nd degree cousins, 2nd cousins would be 4th degree cousins - my
pidgeon French extended itself quite a bit when I realised I had to
explain a totally different method of determining inter-relationships!

Best of luck to you all in 2003,

In a query several months ago, I asked for information relating
to Herman Blond (b. 1845) and his wife Augusta Blond, (b. 1846),
in Frankfurt, GY. I'd gotten the information on their place of
birth >from the 1900 census. Yesterday, I found them on the 1880
census, and while they may have decided by 1900 that they were
Frankfurters, in 1880, they were still >from Posen, Prussia. (Now
a part of Poland, of course...)

Can anyone suggest some links or sites with info on the Jewish
community of Posen during the mid to late 1800's? Please email me

In response to a posting regarding a news article about
the public reading of victims' names recently in Germany,
I contacted the writer of the article and the German
archives. I received a reply >from the archives but it
is of course in German which I do not read.

Would some kind soul be willing to translate the message
for the benefit of the group?
I've found that, for general use, the online translator at

good idea of what's being said, even if the phrasing and
grammar is sometimes a bit awkward. It's also free...

Jennie BROWN, Collingswood NJ married ? WOLF of Florida? around 1940 #general

Jo Schwartz <joschwartz@...>

I'm trying to trace the marriage of my grandmother's sister,
Jennie/Jenny BROWN, to someone named WOLF, circa 1940. She
lived with her mother until the latter's death in 1937 in
Collingswood NJ, and probably remained in that house for a time
after that. Neither she nor my ggmother, a Ukrainian immigrant
who came at a rather late age 45 and never really assimilated
into American culture or learned much English, appear in any
Collingswood directories. I believe another member of the BROWN
family owned the property and both women may have been supported
by relatives.

She died Philadelphia around 1952 (I have seen her grave), having
separated or divorced her husband. The marriage was said to have
not been happy or long lived, but noone left seems to know
anything more about where she met this man, what his name was or
when and where they married. My father seems to think he was in
the meat business. My aunt thinks the marriage occurred after
1940 because she moved to NYC at that time and Jenny wasn't
married yet. Since NJ records are locked up tight unless you
are immediate kin and already have 95% if the information you are
seeking, there's no point in me submitting a search request to
that state. I suppose I should look into Florida marriages, and
perhaps Philadelphia, but i would also appreciate it if any WOLF
researchers who've heard anything like this story could contact me.

Thanks,

Jo Schwartz
