re STERN family, Bethesda, Maryland #germany

A J <genealicej@...>

Thank you to everyone who replied to my last message. As I hoped the
tentacles of Jewish genealogy spread far and wide and --- we are not
related!

The genealogist in this STERN family tells me she has traced the family back to former Hungary, now Ukraine and Slovakia, namely: Huncovce, Munkachevo
and Polina. If anyone thinks there is a connection, I can certainly pass on
an email.

Thank you again to all of your helping me resolve this niggle!

Any Tarnogrod films on loan in your FHC? #poland

Kirsten Gradel <kmgradel@...>

Dear researcher

We just received indexes of the only two Tarnogrod films, 1874421 and
1874422, covering years 1877-90. Tarnogrod is one of the towns in the
Zamosc State Archives project. The indexes are done >from Toronto copies
and unfortunately numbers in the ledgers are cut off on D 1880(62
entries) and on B 1882(54 entries) and B 1885(55 entries). There are
also a few number mix-ups which need checking.

Because we have so far no indexes >from Tarnogrod in Jewish Records
Indexing - Poland's database we are all keen to get these indexes
published as fast as possible.

Neither of those films are on permanent loan in any of the major
FHCenters.

If any of you out there happens to have one or both of those films on
loan in your FHC and would/could help us, please contact me or Tarnogrod

JRI Poland #Poland Any Tarnogrod films on loan in your FHC?

Town leader Lillian Faffer <lfaffer@juno.com>

Happy New Year to all of you,

Re: Books on pogroms and 1900 census index #general

barbara

For all interested parties,

I have located one particular book in the Jacksonville Public Library in FL,
on pogroms in the Ukraine during the years 1917-1921. The title is: Between
darkness & dawn: a saga of the Hehalutz by Abraham Thomi. Published by
Bloch, c1986.

And yes, there is definitely an index for the 1900 census. My book titled,
Finding answers in U.S. census records, by Loretto Dennis Szucs and Matthew
Wright, says that this Soundex index "is regarded as one of the most
inclusive and accurate of the federally-created indexes"... " It identifies
all heads of household and every adult whose name is different >from that of
the head of household".
