Help us support JewishGen! #france

Rosanne D. Leeson <leeson1@...>

Dear FrenchSig Members:

JewishGen needs everyone's help! As you may be aware, JewishGen has
grown exponentially in the past few years so that it is now a major
international institution. As such an institution, JewishGen can no
longer afford to be solely a "volunteer" organization. Warren Blatt and
Michael Tobias, the software geniuses, who keep JewishGen up and
running, have full time jobs. Michael even has a wife and two daughters!
Susan King, founder of JewishGen, needs full time support if JewishGen
is to continue to grow. It costs money to store the records and web
sites of the SIGs. All of this was made clear to those of us at the
Toronto Conference and we responded generously. No one wants to see JewishGen
charge fees like Ancestry.com; however, there
is no longer a free lunch. Therefore, we are appealing for your help.
We are asking you, individually, to pledge what you can NOW!!! Go to
www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity and make
your pledge. We need to keep JewishGen going and we each need to
pay our way!

Many thanks for your continued support!

Help at Mt. Zion Cemetery - Queens, NY #general

A. E. Jordan

Wondering if someone would be willing to volunteer to visit Mt. Zion
Cemetery in Queens to help out the cemetery project? I have a fair
amount of work to do at this cemetery and there is no way I alone
would get it all done alone in one day. Was hoping someone (or may
be even two or three someones) would like to volunteer to survey some
graves at Mt. Zion with me.

There is one plot in particular (a Kurlander society plot) that I would
like to work on. I saw it on my last visit and it is well cared for
but it has over 700 stones.

If there are a few people in the New York area that could spare a few
hours, please let me know and let's see if we could work on cataloging
this plot for the database.

Many thanks.

Maximilian HARDEN (1861-1927) (born WITKOWSKI) #general

SFalk81162@...

I have just learned that my great great great grandmother may have
been the great aunt of the German publicist and political writer
Maximilian HARDEN, born Isidor WITKOWSKI in Berlin in 1861. He
converted at age 16 and changed his name. Apparently, he had a
brother Georg WITKOWSKI.

I do not need references to articles on the internet or in Jewish
encyclopedias -- I have found those.

I am intererested in any information that anyone may have about the
family history of Maximilian HARDEN, particularly anything about his
father's WITKOWSKI family.

Although I have a painting of my great great great grandmother, I
do not know her first name. She was probably >from Silesia (but may
have been >from Posen Province), and was probably born about 1780.
Her maiden name was WITKOWSKI. She married Eloeser ZUELZ.

Thank you,

I wonder if Bercovitz and Berkovitz derive >from the same name,
Bercovici or are completely different names.
All of these names could be interchangeable - certainly in previous
generations, exact spelling of a surname was not very important.

I have found various documents for my own family spelled
Davidovics, Davidovici, Davidovits, Davidovitz, Davidson, Davis and
other variations.
