Bryanston St. Synagogue, London #unitedkingdom

Jocelyn Keene

I recently received a marriage record with the place of marriage being
the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue on Bryanston St., London. Does
anyone know what synagogue this is and whether it still exists? I have
been unable to find any record of it in my web searches.

Dear Genners-
Have come across a new name...a brother in law of my gf on the 1920 census.
His name is Irving LUPOLOR, married to Ida/Ide (Kronberg?). He was born in
England around 1894, and I think his parents were >from Russia. Is anyone
familar
with this surname?

Hi All

A tip for those that don't know, as there is no print option with this
utility.

If you hold down keys ALT and PRINT SCREEN this will export the screen image
to the clipboard so that you can use edit and paste to import it into excel
etc
Best regards

There is a fabulous new utility for 1901 Census users called:
Get 1901 Census Data.

It does involve downloading a small software routine.
Details, and links to the download page, can be found at

Zolkiewka indexed by JRI-Poland! #general

Kirsten Gradel <kmgradel@...>

Dear fellow genners

The Jewish Records Indexing - Poland project is pleased to announce
that the indices to the Jewish vital records of Zolkiewka - not
filmed by the Mormons - have now been indexed by the JRI-Poland team
in Warsaw as part of the Zamosc Polish State Archives (PSA) project.

Zolkiewka is located ca. 40 km south-east of Lublin, 35 km north-west
of Zamosc at location 50 deg. 54 min. N, 22 deg. 20 min. E.

The database covers the years 1881, 1883-91, 1893-98 and contains
2005 entries. In addition it will include the years 1831, 1834, 1836,
1839 not contained in the LDS films; those 4 years are in order but
have not yet been received >from Lublin Archives.

Nearby town names seen in the LDS years >from Zolkiewka are Borow,
Bzowiec, Gorszkow, Plonka, Rudnik, Szczbrezeszyn, Turobin,
Wierzchowina, Wysokie to mention just a few that spring first to mind.

Some of the surnames found most often in the Zolkiewka indices:

AJCHENBLAT 12, BENDEL 18, BIGEL 13, CHOCHMAN 36, CUKER 18,
FASZYNG/FASZYNK 18/3, FELMAN 39, FIRER 17, FLASZER 15, GERECHT 44,
GERSZMAN 17, GLIKMAN 20, GONIKMAN 14, KAC 16, KATC 34, KORN 22,
KUNA 23, LAUFER 18, LIBSTER 17, MILSZTAJN/MILSZTEJN 15/4,
PELC 69, ROTMAN 23, ROZENBLAT 20, RUBIN 29, SZER 17, WAGNER 41,
WINER 18.

A list of all surnames appearing in the Zolkiewka PSA file is online
at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/psa/Zolkiewka.htm.

If you want to know the number of times any surname appears in the
new indices or more about Zolkiewka and the Zamosc PSA Project,
please contact me.

And there more, just as exciting news: A fantastic database with extensive
extractions >from the 1810-25 vital records of Zolkiewka has
recently been donated to JRI-Poland >from Jerry Schneider and will be
online on JRI-Poland shortly. It will take your breath away when you
see it.

I truly think Zolkiewka must be one of the so far best documented
towns in Poland.

24 other towns in the Zamosc area are part of the Zamosc project and
we still need Town Leaders for:

Jarczow,
Josefow,
Laszczow and
Tomaszow Lubelski.

Please contact me if you think you can help or have an interest in
any of these towns.

Best wishes and Shana tova to you all

Re: Benno: the name #general

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>

According to the Oxford dictionary of first names Benno is the German
medieval short form of various Germanic names containing the word
'bern' (bear), thus it is not a Jewish name. It was used as short
form for Benedict (not Benjamin).
