GOLDNER Passenger List Help #general

Shawn Weil <weil.17@...>

List-

I am trying to locate the passenger manifests for my grandmother's two
oldest sisters: Sarah and Lena GOLDNER. I would appreciate any
suggestions or help that you could provide.

Here is what I know:
1) Sarah GOLDNER was born ~1891 in Sculeni, Romania (near Iasi).
2) Lena (Shlima?) GOLDNER was born ~1894 in Sculeni or Bivolari, Romania.
3) They emigrated to New York in 1910 or 1911 - the first two sisters of
nine siblings.
4) They probably would have listed their uncle, Avram GOLDNER, as the
person in the US to whom they were traveling. He lived in Brooklyn, NY at
that time.

What I have done to find them:
1) EIDB main search page gave me a few hopefuls, but no hits.
2) Steve Morse Jewish Page - no hits for DM Soundex: GOLDNER for that time.
3) Steve Morse Short Form - when I have been able to get on the site, I
have tried various meaningful combinations of the following, and then
sorted them by date and first name in an Excel spreadsheet. Not all of my
searches are complete - I'll wait until there is less traffic on the site.
Surname soundex: GOLDNER; Surname contains text: 'ner'; Surname
begins with: "G"; Surname blank
Year: 1908-1911; Age: 15-25
First Name: Shlima; Schlima; Lena; blank - (Sarah, Sura, Sure have too
many hits, but I may try that)
Town Name Soundex: Romania; Russia; Iasi; Sculeni, Bivolari
4) Asked the National Archives for the citizenship documents for Sarah,
Lena, and their husbands (Joel PRIMER and Benjamin TURNER
respectively). They could only find the documents for Sarah's husband,
and it gave no specific immigration information for Sarah. They could not
find the other's in their indices, and I couldn't find them in the online
databases that I know about (Brooklyn and New York to 1907-192?).
5) Looked for census listings >from 1920 and 1930 to see if/when they
became citizens. The 1920 census indicates that they weren't citizens. I
have found Sarah's 1930 listing, and it indicates that she was not a
citizen in 1930. I will have to wait for the Ancestry on-line 1930 index
for Lena's listing - I do not know her address for that year.

What should I do now?
1) Would the soundex film index for NYC passenger arrivals be any
different than the EIDB index? I know that the EIDB did not film
everything - did they index everything? Are their periods in 1910 and
1911 for which there are no longer any films.
2) Lena TURNER nee GOLDNER and her husband lived in the Bronx for a
time. I've e-mailed the Bronx County Clerk about the cost of searching
and retrieving these documents, but I never received a response. Does
anyone know what years they have?
3) Any other ideas? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you if you've made it this far. Cheers-

"European Ancestral Village Photography" #hungary

David Mandel <dcmandel@...>

I stumbled upon this web site while searching for photographs of the
Slovakian village my grandparents left more than a hundred years
ago. Since I've never seen an image of that village (Dedasocz/Dedacov) and
since I cannot afford to travel there, I am considering using the services
of Dr. Maros Krajnak. He offers to go to any village in Europe (primarily
Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Ukraine) and document its
environment, structures, and people in 50 photographs for less than $200.
http://www.village.sk/index.html

Has anyone used this service?
Tom Venetianer mentioned it a couple years ago on jewishgen, but it was
apparently not as well established then.
The photographs on Krajnak's site are well done. He works out of
Bratislava, but has a representative in the U.S.
He retains the copyright to all photos, presumably allowing him to sell the
same photos to other people searching for the same village.

Tsvi Sinai <t_sinai1@...>

Gila Miriam Chait asked for the website of old GermAn script.

Just go to any search machine ( I found it in Lycos ) and write " Old German
script" and you'll find it.

I can send it to anybody who needs it.

SITE CITE - Sugenheim Jewish Community #germany

Thea & Heinz Skyte <thea_heinz_skyte@...>

Dear Gersiggers,

For over fifteen years we have been doing research into our family history
and the history of some of the former Jewish communities where the
families originated mostly in Lower and Middle Franconia.

This has resulted in four volumes of "OUR FAMILY". The work is ongoing
and thanks to Gerhard Jochem will now gradually be online. So far only
part 3 "The Jewish Community of Sugenheim" is ready and will shortly be
able to be accessed at

http://home.t-online.de/RIJONUE/sky00000.htm

On Table of Contents only the following will accessible at present:

0) Introduction

3) The GUTMANNS and SCHLOSS’ of Sugenheim recently updated to "The Jewish
Community of Sugenheim (to include some other Sugenheim families)

5) Appendix: Ancestors of Thea and Heinz Skyte. Index of Towns

Maybe it is of help to some other members

Messutta Rosenfeld Perlmutter Anatoth - Tarnopol #galicia

Any help out there. Messutta family of Tarnopol. Moses and Bine - Bine was
a Rosenfeld. There were several daughters. One married a Perlmutter of
Vienna but they were deported to Poland in 1941. Somehow a child survived
(Judith) who wound up in Israel (Ramat Gan) and appears to have married a
fellow named Anatoth. Anyone out there with any connections? Thanks.

Translation of Polish Marriage Certificate #general

J Schamroth <scham@...>

Despite having Judith Frazin's book to help me translate a Polish marriage
registration, I am having particular difficulty with this one shown on
ViewMate at:

http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html, file number VM1893

If anyone could help me, it would be most appreciated. If you are unable to
translate the entire document, then the names, age, and date would probably
suffice.

Many thanks,

Grogecs #general

Stephanie Weiner <laguna@...>

Greetings, Genners,

I'm seeking information on a town named Grogecs. On a 1948 death
certificate, it is listed as being in Romania. However, I cannot find it
in ShtetlSeeker, nor can I find it in the Rosenberg's online gazetteer
website -- not in Romania, nor Czech Republic, nor Hungary, nor Ukraine.
Nor does it turn up in a Google search.

TIA for any forthcoming assistance.
