Surname: SACHEELO - town Sacheelovka? #ukraine

Along@...

Dear friends,

Has anyone ever heard the surname - Sacheelo (or like it)?
My ggrandfather was born as Sacheelo but he changed it
because unknown reason. He was born in 1873 in the little
town of Sochovola, Poland 96 Russia. It is located between
Bialystock and Grodno.
There is a possibility that there was another town there in
the name - Sacheelovka, and that Jews >from Italy came to
this town many years ago. Does someone know more details?

Thank you

Hi Everyone,

I have an ancestor who was supposedly killed in the pogrom that took place
in Proskurov in 1919. I was wondering if there was a list of victims that
was compiled. If not, I would still be interested in reading any other
material that was written about it.

Thanks for your help.

Bonjour

Is it improbable in 1929 that someone was living in Warsaw, but
working in
Wloclawek as dentist? Wloclawek is140 km far >from Warsaw, on the

Dear Daniel,

I would rather doubt that. Even today, a commuter travelling 140 kms
everyday is seldom, and before WW2 the roads and cars were less
comfortable and the trains much slower.

If you need information about doctors and dentists before WW2 in Poland,
please contact me privately.

Dear Genners,

Dan Efrat & Lisa Weissbach-Efrat wrote about a site in Israel for finding
lost relatives and friends, http://www.krovim.co.il/. The Efrats wrote that
the site was only in Hebrew. When I clicked on it, I read that "an English
version for this site is coming soon." This could be very helpful to all of
us.

Riga to Plunge(Lithuania)? #latvia

Carleolady@...

Dear folks,

Census records and family lore indicate that my REST / RESHT family lived in
Courland, Riga and Libau. (Solomon was born in 1881, Courland). However,
the only reference to a REST family I find though the databases online is in
the All Lithuania Databasa which indicates that this family lived in Plunge
and Ukmerge shtetls in Kaunas guberniya in Lithuania (just south of Riga).
(Solomon shows up on the 1899 HaMelitz records as living in Kaunas,
Lithuania, others in Plunge and Ukmerge.)

I did find a reference (All Lithuania Database Revision Lists) in describing
the Revision Lists that referred to:

""Jews originally >from Kaunas Gubernya who were expelled >from Riga, Latvia"
and a host of other lists showing the mobility of our ancestors."

Might this refer to my relatives? Does anyone know of the explusion that
this refers to?

Does anyone have any other thoughts on why my supposedly Latvian relatives
turned up in Lithuania? I am pretty certain that this one family of RESTS
( the only one that I find ANYWHERE) is indeed my family since the first
names and dates correspond so closely. Also, apparently many Plungians ended
up going to South Africa, and there is a branch of RESTs that did go there.
(I have yet to find them...)

Thanks for any help!

Hi
I'm trying to trace information on the family of Chaim KAHN a businessman
from Brest-Litovsk. He was active in the Mizrachi movement and donated money
to Jerusalem (Mekor Chaim is named after him). His son Bendet was the owner
of "Yalkut", a hebrew publishing house, and another son David was the
publisher of Haaretz. I'd like to trace information on his wife, children
and especially a connection to the Rabinowitz, Finkelstein, Rifkin and
Labris families in Brest-Litovsk.
