Re: Toronto feedback and future conferences #belarus

Joyce Weaver <joyweave@...>

I have not read all the follow-up comments here, so I may have missed this suggestion from
someone else.

At conferences of other sorts I have attended, tape recordings of the sessions were made
and copies sold at a minimal cost (enough to cover rental of equipment and time of
operators) to those who could not attend the whole conference or a conflicting-time
session. Perhaps this could be done at future conferences and the tapes sold through the
JewishGen online store.

Joy Weaver

MODERATOR NOTE: Tapes are made of presentations but not of SIG
meetings as a rule. The "Syllabus" contains the notes of the
presenters who sent them to the Conference ahead of time!

FW: CHERNUKHIN and LURIA #belarus

Sharpe, Andrew <andrew.sharpe@...>

I am looking for information on the genealogy of the CHERNUKHIN and LURIA
familes that lived in Dubrovno Mogilev region >from about 1850 - 1900.
Paticular interest is linking my ggrandmother Reitza Luria to Solomon(aka
The Maharshal) Luria who lived in the 1500's.
The common link is my grandfathers name Zev Wolf appears every 2nd
generation.
All records searched on Belarus SIG have been negative.Access to Mormon
records is not possible for me.
Can anyone suggest a genealogist that has had success for records in
Dubrovno and or Mogilev.

Persistance does pay off, as this year I have traced the ancestry of the
SLONIM family >from Skhlov back to the 1400's.

Minsk or Pinsk? #belarus

Swanson, F. <feswanson@...>

Although both of my parents were born in London (U.K.), the rest of my
mother's siblings and her parents were born in Poland/Russia. When I
questioned my mother about her origins, she said - Minsk, Pinsk, who
knows?
Here are the names I am researching:
BERMAN, Morris (Moshe)
married FINKEL, Fanny (Freyda)
sons: Sol (wife Minnie), Harry (wife Sadelle), John (wife Matty) all 3
resided in Los Angeles
Bert married Hettie in London. Hettie was >from France. They retained the
name BERMAN.
All of them are deceased.
daughters: Nellie (married Johnny JACOBS)
Katie (married Joe MORRIS)
Dora (married Jack ISOW)
Lily (married Al FINKEL in New York)
Rose (mymother) - married Nathan VINECOR in London.
All are deceased.
I was born in the East End of London and raised in Hackney and the
southwest coast of England. I came to California in 1952.

Re: Donations to SIGs and Jewishgen #belarus

jeanne4_98nospam@yahoo.com <jeanne4_98@...>

Dear Genners,

I have read with interest the comments about the need to donate money.
Obviously all the SIGs and Jewishgen itself need money to operate. The
SIGs and JewishGen run on both money and volunteerism. BOTH are needed
to continue accumulating and disseminating this wonderful body of
knowledge.

I have been offended more than once by well-meaning but boorish people
who have written me personally to suggest that I donate money when I've
recounted some small success due at least in part to what I've learned
here. I am also offended that some SIGs don't want donations of less
than $100. Some of us can't afford to give that much at once. Why
aren't smaller donations welcome?

In my own case, I "retired" some twenty years early due to a chronic
illness. I didn't have the time I expected to build a retirement nest
egg. My means are small, but my heart is big and I have the time to
donate when I am well enough. No doubt I am not the only one.

It seems to me that if we all donate what we can--both monetarily and
otherwise--that this project will continue to flourish. And may I
suggest that it is most improper for anyone to write another personally
to tell that that person to donate money at a particular time.

Thanks for letting me have my say.

Dear Kenneth,
I do not remember the details of your message of some time ago. But I
remember that it was connected with Geseke.

Meanwhile I have received a lot of material >from the Geseke Stadtarchiv.
Including an interesting chapter on the Geseke Synagoge (including a
beautiful drawing of the ancient building, drawn >from 'memory') & Jewish
school. The chapter contains lists of names, of 1854 and of 1935.

In the 1854 list appears: KRONENBERG, Bernhard.

In the 1935 list there appear:

Kronenberg, Ferdinand (56), V=F6lmeder Str. 7, Kaufmann
Kronenberg, Werner (26), Hellweg 18, Kaufmann

A Jewish teacher Salomon Kronenberg is mentioned (1867).

Best wishes, Zeev Raphael, Haifa <zeevr@...>
