Rosemary Lane Synagogue
#unitedkingdom
Hazel Dakers <hazel.dakers@...>
Does anyone know of any records of what I imagine was a tiny synagogue
(referred to by Cecil Roth) in Rosemary Lane, off Upper East Smithfield near the Tower of London? I wonder if my ancestors of Upper East Smithfield attended there and whether this may be why I seem unable to find their vital records through the United Synagogue Archives. Hazel Dakers, London Researching: Norden( London and S. Africa), Heimann (Luegde, Pyrmont in Germany and S. Africa), Gold and Birnbaum (Lodz, Poland)

HO Papers from PRO
#unitedkingdom
Jjlaca@...
Some time ago, I sent off my 10 pounds to get an estimate of the costs to have copies of my grandfather's immigration file (pre 1920) sent to me. This was done using the PRO's website. Although the payment went through my credit card, the PRO did not have a record of the order. After we got that straightened out, I was advised by a very nice lady that she had retrieved the file, which contained 1941 documents and was not related to immigration at all.
The HO Paper number I gave her was 215,214. The records she obtained were 215/214. I had pointed this out but she decided to send me a sample of the 215/214 documents anyway (at no cost to me). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed to try to get the correct file? Many thanks, in advance. Peter & Mary Blundell <pmblundell1@...>
Dear listers,
I have asked for information on this family before, but now I find we have the wrong marriage certificate. The marriage I want is abt. 1848 Morris SAMUEL abt 23/4 yrs old and Amelia COHEN abt 19 yrs. It appears Amelia was the daughter of Isaac COHEN, who had been living in Portsea for many years, till his death in abt 1843 The marriage would have taken place in the Spitalfields area I think, as that is where they lived after. Would any one have access to Synagogue records for this area or anywhere they think likely. I would be very Grateful for any information, as I am very limited in what I can do. Waiting hopefully, Mary Monto Qld.

1901 Census - Address Search
#unitedkingdom
LaurenceCardon@...
Barry Young asked how to obtain a census record >from an address (my
paraphrase of his question). An address search was a planned feature of the 1901 Census Online (even as late as November 2001 - when it was published in the User Guide), but unfortunately the functionality was dropped prior to initial release in January 2002. So, as far as I am aware, searching by street is not possible. One option is look up the street in the 1901 street finding aids (at the FRC or PRO at Kew) to obtain the piece number and folio(s) in exactly the same way you would if using a census microfilm - one or more folio numbers may be given. Armed with that information the direct search facility on-line can be used. Laurence Harris Middx, England

JewishGenMall 10% Discount Sale Extended
#hungary
Sandra and Donald Hirschhorn <donsandyh@...>
Since so many of you are still in "vacation mode" or preparing for the
holidays you might not have taken advantage of the 10% discount on everything we offer in the JewishGenMall. We have extended the cut off date to midnight in Houston on Sept. 20th...after the Jewish holidays. We invite each and every JewishGenner to take advantage of the extra time to browse the Mall seeking that special book or video you've been thinking about purchasing. Visit http://www.jewishgenmall.org by clicking on "Search" at the bottom of the page and then typing in any category that interests you such as Genealogy, Holocaust, Lithuania, New York, etc., etc. If you are not familiar with an online shopping environment, click on the FAQ first and read up on how best to use the program. On behalf of all of us who work behind the scenes here at JewishGen, a Happy and Healthy New Year to all of you. Sandy and Don Hirschhorn JewishGenMall
