Naturalization of children #general

martin solomon <bassdoc@...>

I tried to get back to a link where someone had a relative who may
have arrived as a toddler and wanted to know about naturalization.
According to the NYS Archives Information Leaflet #6 after 1922 a
non-native minor child became a citizen when their parents were
naturalized. This source was also good to determine the New York
area district courts and dates of the records available.
www.sara.nysed.gov. The leaflet is a goldmine for basic information
on where to get naturalization records.

Dear Colleagues,

It's that time again. The aftermath of our annual genealogy
conferences always spawns interest in establishing local Jewish
genealogy societies and study groups. Let us know if you want to
organize one in your town; Avotaynu will send you names and
addresses of folks in your area >from our database of those who
have expressed interest in Jewish genealogy.

Re: Detainee manifest #general

Joan Parker <housemom@...>

Glad to know they are available. How did you find those detainee
manifests?
Joan Parker

Searching: GOLDBERG and GOODSTEIN-Plock, Poland/Russia and Brooklyn,
NY; PINKUS and WINOGRAD-Odessa, Ukraine and Brooklyn, NY; GELFAND-
Minsk and Bronx, NY; YEHUDIS; KATZ, Bronx, NY

I must take issue with Diane Jacobs' assertion that detainee
manifests are not available on-line. I have found them,
including the Astoria, March 29, 1906, Ellis Island.

November 2002 Issue of The Galitzianer #galicia

Edward Goldstein <Edward.TheG@...>

The next issue of The Galitzianer will be published in November.

Please submit articles and announcements of genealogical research
interest whether or not you are a member of Gesher Galicia.

If you are a Town/AD leader or historian you are urged to provide
updates that cover a single town or, when appropriate, a single
administrative district. Please keep any discussion of organizational
matters and calls for financial support to a minimum.

We reserve the right to edit as necessary for style, space
constraints, overlap with other articles, and our publication
policies. If requested, we will provide a copy of edited articles to
authors for their approval prior to publication.

Please submit articles (by 15 October) in the form of word processing
files (preferably in Word format) attached to an email. Where that is
not feasible, please email/write me to make other arrangements.

I would appreciate your notifying me ASAP if you intend to submit an
article. You may also find it useful to submit an early draft for
discussion.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Galitzianer: 10th Anniversity CD -- Project Manager Needed #galicia

Edward Goldstein <edward.goldstein3@...>

For Gesher Galicia's 10th anniversary, to be celebrated in 2003, we
are planning to produce a CD-ROM that contains all the issues of The
Galitzianer ever published. These will be in PDF format.

The issues published since February 2001 now exist in PDF format.
Electronic files exist for most of the other issues, but a few issues
exist only in paper format. Quite a bit of work needs to be done to
reconstruct all the issues and to convert them to PDF format. The
work involves planning, scanning paper copies, OCR processing,
reassembling complete issues, etc.

Several members have volunteered for this work. BUT we urgently need
a project manager to do the planning, assign tasks to different
members and make sure the project is done properly and on time.

The project manager should be knowledgeable in all the necessary
steps. He/she should be a paid-up member of Gesher Galicia (not just
the GGSIG).

If you are interested please respond to me or to Shelley Pollero
<rkpollero@comcast.net>.

10th Anniversary Video #galicia

Sam Eneman <seneman@...>

Help the Galicia SIG celebrate our 10th Anniversary!

We want to create a video to showcase the successes our members have had
connecting with their Galitzianer history and inspire others in their search.

And we want your help.

We need your stories -- videos and photos -- that capture your most compelling
reunions with long-separated relatives and dramatic visits to ancestral towns.

We will premiere this video at next July's IAJGS Conference in Washington, DC.
So we need your material by January 1, 2003.

We can use any video format and either photos or digital stills. If you don't
have a scanner, send us your photos and we'll scan them. All originals will be
returned.

Please contact me via email at seneman@mindspring.com if you have material for
us to use or any questions.

Thanks,

Sam Eneman
Video Producer

Miedzyrzec Podlaski (Mezritch) #general

alan rems <aprems37@...>

Everyone with an interest in Mezritch has reason to thank fellow
Genner Tzipi Eini-Avitzuk in Israel. Vigilant for anything that
might relate to her own ancestral shtetl in Belarus that is known
by the same (yiddish) name, Tzipi came upon a splendid web site
for our Mezritch. It is - http://mezritch.org.il - created in
Israel by the families and survivors of Mezritch. The material is
mostly in Hebrew and English plus some Yiddish, and includes many
top quality recent photos of the town and details of many of the
extant gravestones.
