Dear Genners,
Has anyone ever heard of a town called called Lutowishg I have no idea
where this is but it appears as the place of residence of the GRUMER part
of my family whose ethnicity appears to be Russian according to
the Ellis Island Data Base . Any help with this would be greatly
appreciated.
Sincerly Yours

Re Levy MATTHIAS or Herrmann HEYMANN #general

Pam G <pgosl@...>

Hello,

This is a longshot but wondering if anyone on this list is connected to
either of the names above, or has any knowledge of these people from
Hamburg. They signed my g-grandmother's marriage certificate in the 1880's
as witnesses (bride's name was Adele Auguste Judell who married Louis
Leffmann). Any information about either this particular HEYMANN or
MATTHIAS family would help me to uncover some mysteries surrounding my
family. The address on the certificate is handwritten, difficult to
decipher, possibly Loghienstrasse 34(?).

Thanks so much for any possible leads. Please respond privately.

Sincerely,

Pamela Leffmann-Gosling , Pittsburg, USA

DODELL to SIEGEL #general

Barbara S Mannlein <bsmannlein@...>

I am researching the DODELL family. I am seeking the descendants of a son
of a Herschel Lieb DODEL.

Herschel Lieb DODEL was born in 1859 in Toporow, Poland, and died in 1917.
Herschel and his wife, Marjem Sura PFEFFER, had 15 children:

1. Berisch b. 1880 (called Benjamin in the US)
2. David Zmarl b. 1882
3, Chaja b. 1887
4. Rosie b. 1888
5. Basia b.1889
6. Nachman b. 1891
7. Becky b. 1892
8. Jenny b. 1894
9. Ruchel b.1897
10. Szulom b. 1899
11. Chaim b. 1901 (Hyman in the US
12. Cine b. 1904 (Sylvia in US)
13. Samuel b. 1907
14. Goldie b. 1909
15. Schmeil Mutria "Harry" SIEGEL b. 1884

# 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 13 came to the US.
# 2, 3, 9, 10 were killed in the Holocaust.
# 6, 14 died in infancy in Toporow.
# 12, fate unknown.

# 15. Schmeil Mutria b. 1884, went to England, took the surname
SIEGEL, and may have been known as "Harry" SIEGEL in England.

Some family members said that he had 5 children, two of whom might have
been named Annie and Harry, others say he never married.

He may have been a comedian, may have lived in Leeds.

Does this strike a chord with anyone?

For those who are investigating their roots in Belarussia and Russia
(former Russian Empire or USSR) it would be useful to see Yiddish-Soviet
equivalent for First Names.
This information is based on real experience and memory of dozens of
former soviet citizens who have been through this adaptation.
