Krukienice #general

In checking copies of family birth, marriage and death records, I have come
across "Krukienice" as the place of these events. Much of the family came
from Mostiska and perhaps Przemysl so I believe Krukienice must have been in
the same vicinity in Galicia. Would appreciate any info anyone might have.
Thanks.

Dear Adam:

When attempting to do any research on South Africa, it is best to look first
at the SA SIG web site which is located at:
http://www.jewishgen.org/safrica. There you will find the best information
on how and where to find information as well as a wealth of databases you
can search through.

In this vein, you can go to the SA SIG web site and look at my piece on the
SA Jewish Year Books for the specific information you seek.

There was a Solly Nankin living in Durban, Natal. They originated I think
from Birzai in Lithuania. When I visited Birzai Lithuania I was shown a
house by Septele Melamedas where he said a family by the name of Nankin had
lived. I think Solly died but contact with the Durban United Hebrew
Congregation may be helpful.

I'm looking for a Lippa/Lipka/Louis NANKIN and possibly two brothers, who
left wife and children in Lithuania to find diamonds in South Africa abt
1904/05. His wife died in 1905 and two daughters went to SA to live with
him, the other three with an Aunt in the United States. The girls in the US
were not reunited with their sisters in SA for 47 years, and never saw their
father again as he died in SA.

from a US news article, I know that one sister in SA was married to a
RIGHTHOUSE and resided in Durbanville. This is my only clue to any location
in South Africa.

I'd like to find the passenger list, as well as grave and anything else about
his life in South Africa. If anyone could advise me on how to go about this,
or knows of these surnames, I'd be very grateful!

I beg to differ with Prof. Esterson. My mother has told me several times
that she lights yahrzeit candles for people >from her town who have no one

Old email addresses #general

Merv & Naomi Barnett

With all the discussion regarding non-response to emails when an address
may be several years old, I thought I'd like to add a couple of
thoughts.

(1) When you go to archives and search, the address of the person who
sent that message could have changed several times in the intervening
time. My son sent messages to lists for me in the early 1990s (before I
became computer-literate) and when I mentioned that if someone wanted to
make contact with him now it would be very hard for them to find him.
As he said *archives are just that - archives*.

(2) If for some reason you need to change your email address, often you
can retain a *mail box* only, for very little cost, so that any messages
sent by someone who doesn't know your new address won't bounce.

Dear Genners,

I am hoping that there is some wonderfully kind person out there >from the
BOSTON MA area who can help me.

My g grandfather went missing he left Liverpool between 1915 - 1922 and we
believe presumably he went to BOSTON MA. USA. (to family) aged between 35 -
40. (possibly with a non jewish lady).
His name is YANKEL/JACOB/JACK/DAVIS/DAVIDOVITCH/DAVIDSON? He was born in
Panavaeys Lithuania B:1881 and died unknown.
He lived in Liverpool for 10 - 15 years married to my g grandmother AIDA
ZAPOROWSKI who went in search of him with her children - my grandparents in
the early 20's. There is evidence to support this on the Ellis Island
Database.
I have posted many many web sites in the hope someone might recognise
something both jewish and none jewish.

I am looking for a kind person >from BOSTON MA to help provide me with the
following:

1) a current telephone list of DAVIS/DAVIES >from the Boston area? (You never
know his decendants may live there?).
2)Or someone to please put me in touch with any DAVIS/DAVIDOVITCH famlies
who may help?
3) Or someone to put me intouch with a rabbi who may know the community
well? for DAVIS connections.
4) Or someone to provide me with a starting point or refernce or census for
the BOSTON area ?

Anything please, this is and has been a major missing link in our family for
years.

Hello,

Probably I can't help you much but I want to translate you this note ,
maybe you had wrong translation ?

On the left side of the note there is a remark " died
4/1
1894"

On the right side : " Abraham Brandes admits to fatherhood of Doramme
(?)
Abraham Pikholz"

I am not sure as to spelling of Doramme.
