Information and photos required to Update Jekabpils kehilalink #general

Arlene Beare

I have not updated my Jekabpils Kehilalink for a number of years. If you
have any family connections to Jekabpils I would love to hear >from you. I
would be happy to put photos of Ancestors on the Ancestors photos page. The
photos should be in jpg format and not of living persons. If you have
travelled to Jekabpils and have photos or information about your trip please
send them to me.

Prior to the 1917 Russian revolution, Kreutzburg (Krustpils), a small
shtetl, was located in the Latvian part of the Pale of Settlement and
Jekabpils, a large town, was outside the Pale. They were separated by the
Daugava River. Jekabpils fell under Courland and Krustspils under Vitebsk.
After 1917, the Pale was done away with and Kreutzburg (Krustpils) became
part of Jekabpils. I am happy to include photos or information relating to
Krustpils on the Jekabpils page.

Jewish marriage and divorce documents featured at JGS Cleveland #general

Sylvia Abrams <sylvia.abrams@...>

Rabbi Hal Rudin-Luria will present "Jewish marriage and divorce documents:
their use to genealogists" at the Wednesday, September 6th meeting of the
Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland. He will share the differences
between what is found on a civil marriage license and in a ketubah, a
Jewish marriage document and in a public divorce record and a get, a
Jewish divorce record.

An expert in the laws of Jewish divorce, Rabbi Rudin-Luria will explain
how a get, a Jewish divorce, shows all the various names a person used and
how this facilitates genealogical research.

Rabbi Hal Rudin-Luria joined B'nai Jeshurun Congreation in 2001. He is a
certified Mesader Gittin. officiant of Jewish divorce. Raised on the
Jersey Shore, he received his undergraduate degree >from the University of
Pennsylvania and rabbinic ordination >from the Jewish Theological Seminary
in 2001. Before joining B'nai Jeshurun, Rabbi Rudin-Luria served as a
student rabbi in Huntsville, Alabama and New York City, chaplain at Beth
Israel Medical Center in New York, the US Navy, the New York Jewish
Healing Center as a grief counselor, and in Los Angeles in a Jewish home
for recovering addicts.

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland meets on the first Wednesday
evening of the month starting at 7:30 PM in the Miller Board Room at
Menorah Park, 27100 Cedar Road, Beachwood. Board members are available at
a Help Desk >from 7:00 PM to assist with individual research questions.
Guests are welcome. RSVP to: Programming@ClevelandJGS.org

Searching for lost family PICARD, Germany to Palestine #general

Ruth & Bruce Lynn <lynn33@...>

Hello,

I've recently discovered that one of my father's cousins and her family did
not die in the Holocaust, but escaped Germany to Palestine around 1936, but
we haven't been able to trace them since the 1950s.

Dr. Ernst Jakob PICARD (born 1887 in Konstanz, Germany) and his wife, Minna
Edith RUSS PICARD (born 1891 in Berlin), and their children, Heinz Helmuth
(b. 1914) and C. W. (I don't know his or her name), lived in Tel Aviv in the
late 1930s, 1940s, and the 1950s. The father was visiting London when he
died in 1959, and C.W. signed the death certificate.

Is there any way to discover whether there are any living descendants of
these cousins?

Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Seeking Rebecca PERLSON (Perelzon) #general

Aubrey Jacobus <aajacobus@...>

In a desperate to solve a family mystery I am seeking some information about
a Rebecca Perlson (Rebecca Perelzon Pearlson) who seems to have vanished >from
the UK records although there is strong evidence she was in Hull (UK) where
her son Lazarus Goldstone was born in 1872. Her older children were all born
in "Russia" possibly in the Bialostok region. Her name appears in later
censuses as the mother of three children of whom she was most certainly not
the mother. Her "husband" Jacob Meyer Goldstone had 3 more children by Shane
Bala Jane Franklin whose marriage can not be found and who eventually assumed
the title as widow of Jacob Goldstone in the 1891 census after the death of
Jacob Meyer Goldstone.

Perelzon is fairly uncommon

The absence of a record of marriage between Shane Bala Jane Franklin or a
record of the death of Rebecca Perlson.
It seems unlikely that Rebecca Perlson would desert 3 children and vanish.
Why did Jacob Goldstone perpetrate this charade.

After 20 years pursuit on an answer I must defeat

Overseas non-residents on revision lists? #lithuania

Rob Sacks <robsacks@...>

Can somebody please tell me whether family members were included on
revision lists if they were living outside Lithuania at the time of
the enumeration?

I'm asking specifically about a family in PANEVEZYS on the 1908
revision list. Some members had emigrated to the US but they are on
the list. I can't tell if I'm looking at the wrong family or the list
includes non-residents.

Thank you.

Connection between JERUSALEMSKY and ENDE families #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

There was a Yitzchak Avigdor ENDE who was born in Jerusalem around 1890. There
was a JAROZALEMSKI family in Grieva and Schuchin area around the same time.
My wife's family (JERUSALEMSKY) have a strong feeling that there was some kind
of family connection between the two above families. Is anyone aware of any
such connection?

We would also be happy to read more material on the Jerusalem ENDE family,
over and above the few short items I found on google.

My own grandfather R' Chaim Yitzchak ABRAMOWITZ also born in Jerusalem in 1895
studied in Yeshiva with the above ENDE and I met him in the early 1960 when I
made aliya to Israel.

RE Problems uploading 23andMe to Gedmatch #dna

Dear Linda,

I just heard that 23andme has a new test chip so this may have something
to do with the snafu. Check with gedmatch for guidance on uploading from
the new chip.

I have twice uploaded three family kits >from 23andMe to Gedmatch. Each
time there is a problem during the tokenization process The kits cannot
be completely processed because of problems on the 17, 19, 21, and 22
chromosomes. If this was a problem with just one kit I might think
there was a problem with the sample but this is the same problem with
three different kits.

Does anyone have an ideas or suggestions on how to handle this? I have
already deleted and uploaded the kits.

In Scotland, it is not uncommon for a grandmother (or an aunt) to be given a
child to raise (in the cases I knew, where the mother was very young), and
the child never knew or only discovered when an adult that her older sister
was her mother.
