Hi Selma.
I'm afraid a friend has already been to the cemetery to take the photo of Heinrich Neumann's grave. You'll have to ask again separately in this group.
The burial record should be at the IKG and if not then at the City Archives.
Good luck.

Hi Misha,
I am asking for a friend. She says her uncle died of malnutrition. That's all I can tell you for now. Thanks for the cemetery information. I didn't know that the IKG had a hospital. I had relatives who died in a businessman's hospital.
A friend is supposed to be going to the cemetery today to take the photo but if for some reason that doesn't work out I'd be grateful for your photo.

I am a 111 point Y-DNA match to an Oliver SPERBER. Can send a published article about this connection to anyone interested in putting our families together. Does anyone here know who this Oliver is?  Jeff Knisbacher

I can understand that would cut the number of Relativity matches down, but out of over 14,000 matches, not a single one hasTheory of Relativity?   Makes me wonder.

I don't have any matches in Relativity.  When I look at the match page, there is no tree or only a very small one.

Searching information about DUGATKIN, TINOVSKY & SCHMUKLER from Kherson Gubernia / Ukraine #ukraine #germany

cesar465y@...

Hi,

I'm searching information about my GGParents' families that remained in Kherson area (then URSS and today Ukraine), after they migrated to Argentina at the beginning of XX century.

Semyon/Simkha DUGATKIN (1869-1942), his wife Luba (neé SCHMUKLER, 1870-1946) and 3 of their kids: Mordechai/Motke/Marcos (1899-1980), Chaim/Eufim (1906-1984) and Risie/Rosa (1900-1963, my GGMother) arrived Argentina between 1912 and 1920.

Three more kids: Izak (1894-?), Czil (1898-?) and Ana (1904-?) remained in the former USSR, most probably in Mykolayev or anywhere else in Kherson area.

One of the sisters married with TINOVSKY (no info about his first name).

I know that during WWII they flew eastward to survive. There are records about Izak, his wife Shilya and their daughter Sofiya in Narimanovskiy District at those years.

After the war all family members came back to Mykolayev and remained there till the 1990's, when it seems that part of the family migrated to Germany.

After that there is no more info about DUGATKIN's or TINOVSKY`s. There is no info at all about Semyon and Luba SCHMUKLER parents and siblings.

May be someone has any idea or hint that should help to continue?

My GGGF was Asher Salke Peterfreund. He had a son David Ozer. They are not the same name.
Ozer is equivalent to Ezra.

Marian,

He could have naturalized in a local court that does not have their index on-line with any of the major genealogy databases.

Where and when do you think he naturalized?

Given name SOSCHE #names

Susan Goldsmith asked about the given name Losche.  This still doesn't answer the question about what given name she may have adopted in the US.

If you look at the outbound manifest from Hamburg, her given name is shown as SOSCHE, with an initial S, not Losche.

Is there a research section that covers the Vileika Uyezd of Vilnius Gubernia #belarus #lithuania

Susan Goldsmith

Is there a research section that covers the Vileika Uyezd of Vilnius Gubernia?  I believe there used to be, but I can't find it.  Did another district take over?  I am particularly interested in Dauhinava, Belarus, formerly Dolhinow, Vileika, Vilnius, Lithuania.
Thank you,
Susan Goldsmith

You may wish to contact Jewish Tour (jewish-tour.com), a long established firm based in Minsk, which offers an in-depth genealogical service as well as heritage tours. Another avenue which you might pursue is to contact Hesed - Rachamin, (hesed@...), also in Minsk.  They can check to see if anyone with the family name you are seeking is listed on their register.

Re: Online trees #general

Marcel Apsel

I was long thinking to put my family trees on Geni and I speak about 8.000 names, but I won’t do it; I did extensive research on Geni and some far distant relation to whom I had once send a tree in gedcom put it on Geni without my permission; ok with recent generations he paid more attention to the privacy, but when I see what happened to that tree, I became horrified.  The tree is a shulent, kishke and kigel mixed together, where my father becomes my great-uncle, a wife is born 25 years later than the date when her husband passed away, parts of the tree are mixed with others, wrong writing of names, death dates are put it as birth dates, information added by one person is contradictory with information put in by others etc.   The principle to share family on a public tree is in principle a good idea, but the results are less, at least with my tree.  I feel a pity for all the geni administrators who have to clean out mistakes and non realistic input.  Conclusion: I keep my tree with me and family who wants to get a tree, I will share with them with a  PDF format.

Finding The Correct Record #general

Teewinot

Hi Cousins,

I'm having trouble figuring out which image is the one I need. I'm
hoping someone here has done this before and can help me. This whole
numbering system has me confused.

I'm looking for the birth record of Movsha-Meer MAJZLIN. The listing is
as follows:

Microfilm/Item:
FHL1920797/3

Image:
86

Archive/Fond:
NHABMinsk/3362/1/7

Place Recorded: Mogilev
Year: 1872
Record Number: M259

The images are found here:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/film/007766480

Which image is the one I want? That's what I can't figure out.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Taking Photographs of Microfilm Reader Images at NYC Municipal Archives #photographs #general

suemo63141@...

I have been there many times. Initially I tried taking photos, but the staff is fairly alert and will reprimand you. Recently much of the microfilm has been indexed and you can see images online rather than using a microfilm reader (which are usually 50% out of commission and out of focus). The place is run on a shoestring clearly, and I have sympathy for the obvious fact they have no funding. At least the staff is helpful. My solution is to make up in advance a spreadsheet with identifiers for all the records I want to look up, and then when I have the image, enter the information in columns prepared for the data I need. The value to genealogists of marriage documents is to be able to decipher the names of the parents of both parties, addresses that help verify identities, and sometimes the officiant and witness names can be helpful as well. Birth and death record images can also contain unindexed information. Beware that this office has only the archived records that NYC allows to be public, and that NYC is very recalcitrant about liberating records that should be public by now (e.g. births only available to 1909). This office is separate from the Health Dept, which has later records and is much less public-friendly.

The female Yiddish name Losche in the US? #names

Susan Goldsmith

Dear Genners

A female Losche Tobias emigrated to the States, arriving in 1914 from Swerzhen, now Belarus.  What might her American name be?
This is not a very common name.  I have checked Jewish given name websites.  I cannot find her in the 1915 NYS Census even though she went to an uncle in Brooklyn in 1914.

Thank you,
Susan Goldsmith
