Coleman, Aronofsky, Aarons, Nieburg family #southafrica

Cldresden@...

Hello,

I am new to this group. I am interested in the above families. Does this link
up to anyone else?

Josepy Aronofsky came >from Vilna, Lithuania. He had three sons. Kulman, Aaron
and Toby. They all came to England. Kulman stayed here and I descend >from
him. Aaron and Toby moved on to South Africa in about 1890. I think they then
lived in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Johannesburg. They married and had
families as set out below:-

Aaron married Annie , had
(1) Joe Aarons who had Leonard and Carmen
(2) Jack Aarons m Minny Bernstein and had Joe Arnold Errol and Harry
(3) Etty who married ? Hepple
(4) Louis married ? and had Ruby and Eunice

Toby also married and had
(1) Louis
(2) Maurice married and had 3 children
(3) David
(4) Edith m Abraham Bass
(5) Esther m Barnet Nieburg and had 9 children
(6) Gisamiral m Katz and had 6 children

Kulman had 4 children, including Jack (b. 1883 m. Mary Bass) and Joe (b, 1885
m Esther Lazarus) who took the name Coleman, anglicising their father's
first name. They also emigrated to South Africa. I think they must have set
up a company called Coleman Brothers, and they imported shoes, manufactured
by the husband of their sister, who remained in England. It certainly existed
by 1917.

If these names are familiar to anyone, please get in touch off list. I have
more details, but this is long enough already!

SOFER - STEINMETZ - ROSENBERG #rabbinic

Tauber, Larry <Ltauber@...>

Some questions related to the SOFER family if anyone can help:

1. In Ktav Sofer, a collection of speeches of Abraham Samuel
Benjamin SOFER (1815-1872), the son of the Chatam SOFER, it is
stated that the editor, Asher Zelig STEINMETZ (b. 1891), was the
grandson of the Ktav Sofer's son, Jacob Akivah SOFER. Asher Zelig's
wife, Channah FELZENBERG was a granddaughter of Jacob Akivah SOFER.
Does anyone have any information indicating that he is otherwise
directly related to the family?

2. In the haskama to Ktav Sofer, Rabbi SOFER-ZUSSMAN says Asher
Zelig STEINMETZ, is "nin veneched mitzad ishti," (i.e., descended)
from Rabbi SOFER-ZUSSMAN's wife's family. Rabbi SOFER-ZUSSMAN's
wife was the daughter of Jacob Koppel REICH, son of Rabbi Abraham
Ezekiel REICH. Does anyone have any information concerning this
relation?

3. Asher Zelig STEINMETZ's aunt, Batya, married R. Nechemia
ROSENBERG, who was apparently related to and possibly a grandson of
Rabbi Jacob Abraham Eber ROSENBERG of Sighet. Does anyone know the
exact relationship between the two?

Thank you,

Larry Tauber

why Uruguay instead of Brooklyn #latinamerica

carol skydell <cwskydell@...>

Bernie Hirsch writes:
>>I'd also like to see if anyone might know why Teodoro chose to go to
Uruguay and then Argentina, yet all of his many brothers and sisters went
to Brooklyn. This seems strange, doesn't it?

As I recall >from an earlier post Bernie wrote this took place in the
1900's. If I remembered that correctly then the answer is because Teodoro
couldn't get a visa to go to the U.S..... I don't remember the exact time
this happened but it was sometime around the mid or late 1920's.

Similar circumstance happened in my SKIDELSKY family... The females and
the younger brothers went to Brooklyn beginning in early 1900. By the
time the three eldest sons were ready, they could not get into the U.S. and
went instead to Argentina where they had cousins.
