What was Really going on at 155 and 157 Rivington St.? #general

Steven Garber <shgarber@...>

Hello!

I'm interested in learning why so many of my relatives indicated that they
were joining other relatives at 155 Rivington Street on the Lower East
Side in NYC. The building dates >from 1902. Before that my relatives
listed 157 Rivington St. as a destination on their passenger ship
manifests. I haven't found any relatives living at either address on any
record other than those manifests.

Some were allegedly staying at 157 Rivington, "c/o Adolf Mandel". I don't
know who he was. I wonder if he may have been someone who loaned money to
or employed immigrants in a sweat shop.

My relatives were >from Vaskovitz, Bukovina, Austria (arr. 1898-1912), a
town aka Vashkivtsi, Ukraine. I only ask about these addresses because
another member of the JGS of Colorado also has seen this address in her
relatives' manifests. I'm guessing that these addresses featured clothing
factories. Streits Foods is located across the street at 154 Rivingtion,
but it wasn't there back in those days.

ELLMAN #general

Searching Ellman / Bromnick
I was adopted and only found my natural Jewish family five years ago.
My mothers family ( she died many years ago ) came >from the Kiev region of
Ukraine and went to Mile End London about 1880-1890.
My mother Minnie Ellman was born in 1913 and married Barnett Diamond
My mothers parents were Hyman Ellman and Annie Bromnick.
Are these common names in the Ukraine.
My mother had an affair with an American GI in England in 1944 while her
husband was a prisoner of war.
Are there records of American soldiers stationed in England at that time.
One last question,is there any books in English on Jews in the Ukraine in
the 1800's
Thankyou

I apparently must have made a mistake and I apologize. I thought that
Pharaoh told Abraham something like: Why did you tell me she was your
