Hi genners,
Please forgive me for posting only to the list and not to the original

who posted the orignal message is researching family in Romania please
email me privately as these are 2 important names in my family.
Zlota Brane was my great grandmother's name. My grandfather always
referred to her as Laura. Her daughter's name was Ghitla Tipra. She

Could someone do a look-up in the Israeli phone book for Aaron SITTNER

My second cousin just wrote:

There was a family in NY named SITTNER. When my father came to NY - 5
years before we came - he stayed with that family. I think they may be
distant cousins. Anyway they had 5 children - 3 girls and 2 boys.

The youngest of the girls, Kaila, married a rabbi who became quite famous
in the Conservative movement. His name was, I think, Ben Zion BOKSER.
However, they did have a son, Baruch Bokser who also became a rabbi.

If either of the 2 sisters (Peshie GOTTLIEB or Kaila BOXER) are still
around I'd like to contact them. Any ideas on how I might find out ??

Also the son (Aaron Sittner) was a reporter for the Jerusalem Post (had a
cup of coffee with him in Jerusalem once).
If he's still around -would like to contact him. Any ideas ?

If anyone knows this family or its descendants, please contact me.

COHEN (Percy, Reginald Percy, Hermon Percy Ainley) in Reading #general

Andrew Tatham <andrew@...>

Hi

I'm researching a group photograph >from the First World War. One of the men
pictured was Harold COHEN and so far not been able to find any of his
relatives. I have a reasonable amount of background but I do not know what
became of his father Percy Cohen, his brother Reginald Percy Cohen, and his
nephew Hermon Percy Ainley Cohen. I would be grateful of any help or
suggestions.

Here is an outline of what I do know about his family:

Harold Cohen was born on 25th April 1895 at his parents' home: 349, Oxford
Road, Reading (there is some confusion over his actual year of birth - his
birth certificate says 1896, but there is mention of a clerical error, and
the various mentions in his army records and grave registration point to
1895). His father, Percy Cohen, was a Commission Agent (his office in 1913
was at Market Place, Reading) and was also President of the Reading
Hebrew Congregation. His mother was Jessie Gertrude Cohen (nee NEWNHAM)
(died 31 March 1921 aged 54). Harold Cohen died on 18th July 1915, as the
result of blood poisoning and double pneumonia at Reading War Hospital (he
had been in training with the 8th Royal Berkshires). He was buried in
Golders Green Jewish Cemetery (I have visited his grave at Row 17, Grave No
26) - the officiating rabbi was Rev V Simmons. At the time of Harold's
death, his brother Reginald Percy Cohen was in Folkestone, and his brother
Arthur Lewin Cohen was serving in France. The last known address of his
father was Upper Redlands Rd, Reading (in 1924). His brother Reginald
Percy Cohen was born in 1890 and served in the Army Service Corps as a
Driver (his civilian trade was given as jeweller). He married Gladys
Evelyn TURNER in Reading on 18 Sep 1916 and they had a son Hermon Percy
Ainley Cohen (born in Reading on 11 Jul 1917) - war-time addresses were at
Oxford Road and 167 King's Road, and last known address of Reginald Percy
Cohen was at Rosslyn, Talfourd Avenue, Reading in 1934 (not at that address
after WW2). His brother Arthur Lewin Cohen died aged 73 on 14 July 1966 at
Battle Hospital Reading after having been hit by a car on 3 April 1966 (at
which time his home was Boundary Road, Newbury) - >from the Electoral Roll
and reports in the local papers at the time it would appear that Arthur
Lewin Cohen did not have any family living locally at the time of his death
(he had been employed by Mr Ben Warner of Donnington for many years and
later as a clerk by Mr George Rolls, the bookmaker).

None of the Cohens have turned up in the registers at the Probate Registry
nor in the Death Register Indexes (although I'll admit I still haven't
covered every date). I'm wondering whether they might have moved abroad.

To find out more about my history project, please have a look at my website

There is also the text of a letter >from my great-grandfather, Colonel
(later Brigadier-General) William Crawford Walton, written three days into
the Battle of Loos at:
http://www.mister-t.demon.co.uk/pages/letbattl.htm

All suggestions gratefully received.
