Re: origin of name "Maimon"

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>
Maimonides (Rambam): The famous scholar's full name was Rabbi Moshe
ben Maimon. His short biography can be found at http://members.aol.com/LazerA/rambam.html A far shot of the name's origin: it could stem >from the Greek word "Mainan" which, by turn, probably originates >from the Hebrew name Menan (one of Joseph's ancestors, JC's father). But I wouldn't be surprised if the name is an acronym, much in use in the time when the Rambam lived. Maybe our more knowledgeable members can shed a more qualified light ;-) Tom From: David Skulski <dskulski@telus.net>Tom Venetianer <mailto:tom.vene@uol.com.br> Sao Paulo - Brazil

I can agree with Phyllis about what she has said below.
Before you use the books, if you don't have any information other than the name and knowledge that it took place here, you need to look in the card catalogue. The x5 cards will let you know which book you'll need. The staff has been very helpful the times I've gone. Oh yes, tis street parking so bring along change. Suzanne S. I pray that you someday reveal to us on earth the whereabouts of the birth, marriage and death records of Dobromil, Galicia, Austria (now Dobromil, Ukraine) for the years 1800-1900 so JRI-PL will someday index them because as far as I can tell noone not even the experts has found these records. So let it get written so let it get done. Some day I will find out the parents of Menachem Mendel Schancz of Dobromil and Jennie Gold of Dobromil, 4 of my great great grandparents in Dobromil around 1790. Dennis Baer Researching Schancz, Schantz, Gold of Dobromil Isser, Schancz, Schantz of Przemysl.

Re: marriage at 14?

WingsforGold <wingsforgold@...>
My paternal grandmother, Minnie Fox, and her husband(Joseph Goldman) were
both born in Russia. She was married at 15, born in 1889. I am not sure what his age was, but it was an arranged marriage. They had 7 children, my father being the youngest. In fact, he was an uncle when he was born, as my aunt and uncle had children right after getting married. My Aunt Sadie and my Uncle Hyman were both married in Russia. There was at least a 15 year spread between my father's oldest sibling and him. Hard to believe they were married so young. Both of my children would be married right now!!! Susan Goldman If you wish to respond to this, please e-mail me back at wingsforgold@aol.com. Thanks.

RINDSBERG and GOLDSCHMIDT

angel <bolava@...>
Hello,
I am researching the surnames of RINDSBERG and GOLDSCHMIDT. My Rindsberg family came >from Uehlfeld, Germany. My direct line is from Jacob Rindsberg b: 1804. I am especially seeking when he left Germany, evidently went to Scotland or Wales then to the US by the 1830's As to GOLDSCHMIDT... I have Benjamin Goldschmidt on board the Globus in 1858 with his wife and children. I am unable to find out where in Germany they came from. Any help or other persons researcing these names, I would love to hear from you. I know it has been wonderful discovering my Jewish roots as Iwas unaware of them as a child.
