Re: California online death index #general

Hilary Henkin <hilary@...>

Dear George,
I'm sure you'll get several answers on this.

Assuming the person who entered the information into the index accurately,
they would've copied the information >from the Death Certificate. That
information would've been provided by the "Informant" named on the
certificate. Probably a surviving spouse or adult child.

The information is only as accurate as that person knew or remembered.
Keep in mind the information was provided at the time of death, so grief
and stress would've been factors as well.

The only errors I found in the online index was that too many times the
"County of Death" was listed as "Trinity" when it wasn't.

By the way, there are two California Death Indexes online - one at
Rootsweb, and one at Ancestry. They're very similar (both >from the same
master data), and Rootsweb doesn't have nearly as many "cookies" as
Ancestry.

Sprintze #general

Curiousyl@...

In my search for my maternal ancestors, the given name Sprintze is listed
on 2 branches of my maternal Grandfather's descendant's charts - Sprintze
Ehrenpreis 1874-1910, [Austria] and U.S., and the Swedish branch: Sabina
Sprintze 1775, also married to an Ehrenpreis. FHL document entrys for Moses
[b.1819] Ehrenpreis, lists his Mother's name as Sprunze, and an IGI Record
for the same period lists Moses's Mother's name as Sprintze.

from my Ehrenpreis "notes collection":
"The Hebrew University building in Jerusalem that houses the Archives of
the Jewish People [the Jewish equivalent of the Mormon Archives?] is named
after a beloved speaker of the Knesset, Joseph Sprinzak, who obviously
derived his name >from a female ancestor." [source unknown]

re Irving BERLIN #general

Genealicej@...

I have an interesting book I picked up once in a remaindered bookshop
called Irving Berlin and Ragtime America by Ian Whitcomb ISBN 0 7126 1664 0
which the blurb pronounces has the theme of the "creation of American
popular music in the early years of this century .." I enjoyed reading it
and it gives something of the background of Irving BERLIN, as well as a
number of other composers.

Born Israel BALINE in Temun, Siberia, an illegal settlement outside The
Pale. Child of Leah and Moses, a cantor, and had seven siblings. Arrived in
New York 1892.

I have no commercial interest in this book and it may be out of print.

My website is at http://members.tripod.co.uk/AliceJosephs/INDEX.HTM. I have
been told it was not working for a while, but it is definitely up and
running now!
