Re: Social Security Application Question #general

Hi, Deb,

May I correct a misapprehension in your question? Social Security is
automatically available to any legal resident of the United States who
is employed in this country. One is not required to be a U.S. citizen
to pay into the system. Therefore, citizenship information would not be
pertinent on the application. I know, because I and my whole family of
refugees have gone that route.

Kremenets, Updated Surname List, 24 Jan 2001 #ukraine

Ronald D. Doctor <rondoctor@...>

I'm pleased to announce that the next update of the Kremenets, Ukraine
Surname List
now is available on the Kremenets Shtetl CO-OP section of the Jewish
Resources Indexing - Poland (JRI-Poland) website. Point your browser to:

http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/kremenets_surname_list.htm

The updated list now includes 1,047 surnames >from the vital records and
Yizkor Books. The vital records entries include all birth records for 1870
and death records for 1870 through 1872.

We still NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS who are able to TRANSLATE RUSSIAN, YIDDISH,
and/or HEBREW. The more volunteers we have the sooner we can get these
records on-line. Please contact me if you have any of these language skills
and have not yet been given a translation assignment.

Those who have donated time and/or money to the project received pre-release
copies of the posted Surname List. This is one of the ways we can reward
those who help the project move forward. So, if you can help with
translations, I'd be happy to add you to the distribution list for
pre-release copies of the information we post on-line. And, if you can't do
translation work yourself, you still can join this PREMIERE group by making
a financial (and tax-deductible) contribution to the project. Contributions
will be used for copying expenses and to hire professional translators to
supplement our volunteers.

You can contribute to either the Yizkor Book part of the Project or the
JRI-Poland Vital Records part ... or BOTH. For Yizkor Book Project donations
point your browser to:

http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/YizkorTrans.html.

You can make your donation electronically with a credit card, or you can
download a printable form for making your payment by mail. To be sure your
donation goes to our Kremenets project, scroll down the list and check the
box next to Kremenets, Ukraine.

Instructions for contributing to the JRI-Poland part of our project are at
http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/kremenet.htm Be sure to specify that your
contribution is for the Kremenets SHTETL CO-OP.

For more information about the Kremenets Shtetl CO-OP take a look at our
Shtetlinks website at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Kremenets/. The
site also includes historical information about Kremenets, analysis of the
vital records, and photos of Kremenets and Kremenetsers. For those of you
who have visited the website before, please note the change of address.

If you locate ancestors on the list, please let me know about it. I'm
keeping a log of "successes". And, as usual, if you have any questions,
please be sure to contact me. I'm looking forward to hearing >from you.

Surname WOLF #general

Laurie Sans <lsans@...>

I know this is a long shot since this name is not uncommon and I don't have
much to go on, but I want to try anyway.

I and looking for the family of Anna WOLF. She was born in Chicago,
probably in the 1890s. Her maiden name was STOLL. I do not know her
husband's name. Her parents were Jacob and Bessie(nee LUBELSKY) Stoll;
both are buried in Chicago. Anna had three sisters. Sisters Etta (died
1933) and Lillian (died 1947) never married and are buried in Chicago.
Her sister Mary married Sam KALLICK. I know her three sisters lived in
Chicago most of their lives and all died their. Mary and Lillian lived in
Phoenix in the early 1940's. It's really just ANNA WOLF that I have no
information about. I would appreciate hearing >from anyone that may know
something about her.

Thank you,

There was a Mayer LANSBERG (spelled with an S) who lived here in
Melbourne, Australia. He died about 10 years ago, roughly, and had a
son living in Israel. He had been in a concentration camp during the
war and immigrated to Australia afterwards. I don't know if this is the
person you are after but he was >from Poland. Unfortunately, I don't

Searching info re Saul/Miriam NOVOGRUDSKY #general

Louise Jamieson <louise@...>

Hi,

I am trying to research the family of my
great-grandfather, Lev NOVOGRUDSKY.
He was born in the town of Minsk in 1883 and
he came to England in 1905.

His parents were Saul and Miriam and
his sisters Sonya (Soshe) and Esther
(possibly Itke?).

I am using all of the information from
JewishGen.

Does anyone have any Novogrudsky/Novogrodsky
in their family tree?

with great thanks,
