Misty Marshall <miscue@...>
Hi all,
I have been a "lurker" for awhile now and have finally decided to post. I am researching a William Zukovsky who immigrated >from Russia in 1912 at the age of 17. His passport has his name as Vikintii Alexseev Zhukovskii. Unfortunately, the page that would list his Russian hometown or residence is missing. It is known that he was the only one of his family to immigrate. It is believed that he had siblings in Russia. His SS-5 form list his parents as Alex Zukovsky and Veronica Wanigaly. William never spoke of his past while he was alive. The only thing he said of his past was he was born in Minsk, and the family were some kind of farmers that grew (maybe flax?) stuff to turn into material to make shirts. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Misty Marshall Houston, TX Researching: ZUKOVSKY (ZHUKOVSKII), ROMANOFF (ROMANOV), DAUWALDER, GOZZARD, MARSHALL, CHECK, WANIGALY, CALLOWAY.

Early Jewish landowners in Decatur, GA
#general
Ann Rabinowitz <annrab@...>
Don't be surprised that there were Jewish settlers in Georgia in 1849. As
one of the original thirteen colonies, Georgia also boasted of early Jewish landowners and shopkeepers as well as participants in the later Revolutionary War. In 1733, several boatloads of Jewish colonists arrived in the newly founded town of Savannah, primarily with Jews of Spanish/Portuguese or German extraction. They migrated as others did >from the colonies such as Virginia and >from the Caribbean, England and Germany. There is much written and many records to be found about the Jews of Georgia. My g'grandmother's headstone indicates that her husband was "Rav"ChaimRav = rabbi. But I suspect that on this headstone both terms could stand for Reb = Mister. Marriage in Eiselstein
#general
Gill Joye <Gilljoye@...>
I have a copy of a sworn affadavit which states that CHARLES SOLOMON married
Cesira Marinina MIRANDOLI on 16th August 1859 in Eiselstein, near Rotterdam. (Their Hebrew names were Saul and Sarah). They normally lived in London and had married abroad (they already had 3 children) because Cesira converted to the jewish faith at this time. I am keen to track down the actual marriage record and wondered if anyone could help me with a lookup or tell me who to contact. I think that nowadays Eiselstein is the same place as Ijsselstein.
