I found the name Minka in some papers. I believe it to be a sister to my
great-grandfather. I am assuming its a Yiddish name. Would anyone know
what its equivalent would be in Hebrew??

Minnie, Minna and Mindel were usually given to "match" the Hebrew name
Miriam. So I would expect the same to be true of Minka. As has been
discussed many times before, it is not usually a matter of "equivalence"
but simply of sound-matching.

particularly the Memorial Cemetery in Bloemfontein where, I've been informed, one of my possible ancestors is buried.

Regarding Joyce Field's post - I wish that I could amplify further on the

I went to grade school with a Shepsie whose name is Moshe. I think

baby.

I am very interested in finding out why many, many Jews left Belarus
(around 1885 etc.)and went directly to Ekaterinoslav in the Ukraine.
I would greatly appreciate any information concerning this, including
