Naomi RODRIG -- MANDELKER researcher #general

David Priever <David_Priever@...>

Dear Fellow Jewishgenners,

Help!!!!!!!!!

I have tried everything possible to locate Naomi Rodrig, whose name is
listed in the Family Finder as doing research on the MANDELKER name. I am
looking into this family for Mrs. Esther Bandel of New York City. Her
mother was a MANDELKER and most of the siblings are believed to have
murdered during the Holocaust.

All messages I have sent to Ms. Rodrig have not bounced back, so I have no
inkling what is happening.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
David J. Priever

Hi,
Is it my imagination, or are we reading more and
more posts of people whose computers are dying?
As one who suffered thru this, I whole heartedly
agree that you need to not only use antivirus, but
a decent zip drive backup/copy as well. It takes
minutes to save a directory, and it will be worth it.

<< This I totally agree with. As to the harsh responses about busy lives,
"if you don't have a detailed subject line it should be deleted," I
delete anything that doesn't attract my interest" etc., I think your
words are a bit strong and possibly unwise to publish. Remember, those
of you who have voiced your opinions may someday need assistance. If
you openly admit to others you delete e-mails without reading them, then
there may come a day when the response *you* seek doesn't come.
Something tells me that everyone who posts to this lists wants there
e-mail read and it goes without question we ALL lead busy lives. >>

==I started this recent thread, and it appears to me that I am
being "quoted" (although the words differ >from what I say).

==I spend at least 4 hours a day on line--most of it re genealogy. I do
not know Russian or Slovenian. I cannot tell you anything about your
family in Bobruisk, Vienna, Hamburg or Lisbon. I do not plan to attend
the monthly meeting of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Chattanooga.

==I like to give help, precisely because I have gained so much help.
I will try to identify, explain, correct, decode or translate anything
where I can make such contributions. As many of you know, I'm fairly
active on this site, though not as active as on sites where I can
contribute more. As a matter of fact, a year or two ago there were
complaints by subscribers to this list that I was posting too much.
I was.

==I have the right to choose not to read something that is totally
irrelevant for me, or that is so poorly subject-detailed that the chance
of my finding something useful in it is like the chance of finding a
Friday evening Minyan at the South Pole.

==My words when I started this thread are cautions for the unaware: If you
want to make sure your topic is read by those who can help you, be precise
in the subject line so that the busy "experts" will know what to read.
Know that if you write "Help needed" or "Question" or "Immigration" it is
likely to be ignored by the very people who might be able to help you.

==Yes, I know, if I write meaningless subject lines I will get no response
from knowledgable readers. Which is why I try my best to be as precise and
as informative as I can be in the subject line. And why 80% or more of my
posted inquiries get responses--most of them frrom people who are truly
knowledgable. If I ever give "Help needed" or "Question" or "Immigration"
as my subject line, I too will be, deservedly, ignored by those who are
serious.

==To expect active genealogy researchers to open every message that's
posted is naive--and arrogant. Entice us to open them and we may.
Write "Help, a question" and we won't. It's that easy.

==Nothing can be said in favor of an uninformative subject line.

Re: Prussian Town - Where is it? #general

Dear Francoise,

Even if it means stating the obvious: Central European boundaries have
been *extremely* variable in the last centuries. A good part of
today's Hessen became part of Prussia at some point in the 19th

century. And, having grown up near Stuttgart, I can tell you that
the locals are *not* Bavarian. No lederhosen, less beer, and more
Protestants 8-).
