Re: The Debrecen Deportation list and **Surnames I'm researching** #hungary

Bob and Hazel Keimowitz <rkhk@...>

To illustrate the potential value of the the deportation lists on which some
of the H-Sig members are working, I thought I'd report that a József Kun,
born in 1901 in H. Nánás, was deported >from Debrecen. I don't have
information available on this person's father. His mother's maiden name was
Ohrenstein.

The group working on the Debrecen list still has about 400 names (of the
approximately 4000 on the list)to enter into the database. Anyone
interested in helping out with this last small group? Our present need is
to identify a few Hungarian speakers who would review the paper list from
Yad Vashem with the computerized listing that we have created to verify that
all the information was captured as accurately as possible.

Please contact me directly (or contact Mr. Lou Schonfeld) if you are
interested in helping to validate this major source of information for the
whole group's use. We need your help. Contribute and then know that you
not only used but contributed to this group effort!

In researching the name MEDOFF or MEDVEDOVSKY, I found two entries
in the Vsia Rossiia database. They referred to Surname MEDVEDOVSKII;
Occupation grocery and fabrics; Year 1895; Column 1058; Town Zubani S SE;
Uyezd Gubernia Khorol Poltava.

Can anyone explain further or give me guidance as to how I can
best utilize this piece of information?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I think that the idea is fantastic, but living in Israel do not know how I
could be of help. However, since there is an existing microfilm, already
indexed, I would appreciate if someone would volunteer to check a couple of
names for me of people who supposidly arrived in the early 1840s. Many
thanks. Ed Kroll, Israel
