Moliff, Russia - where is it? #general

Asparagirl <asparagirl@...>

Rebecca (Rifka) NEEDLEMAN KROKOFF, was born July 7, 1900 in Moliff, Russia
to Morris NEEDLEMAN and Nessa HERSHKOWITZ / HERSHOWITZ.

Where is Moliff, Russia? Attempts to use JewishGen's ShtetlSeeker have
yielded a number of similiar-sounding place names (including the
lovely-sounding city of "Mylove" ), but none that seem to match. Keep
in mind, too, that "Russia" in 1900 (at the time of her birth) isn't the
same as Russia today.

Rebecca/Rifka's husband Murray KROKOFF's family was >from the Podalia
Gubernia, near Kiev, in the Ukraine, so maybe the town was near there, but
I don't know if she married him before or after they were in NYC, so
perhaps it wasn't.
<sigh>

Any help would be much appreciated!

Searching: KROKOFF, GOLDBERG, NEEDLEMAN, HERSHKOWITZ / HERSHOWITZ #general

Asparagirl <asparagirl@...>

Searching for information on the KROKOFF family. Murray Samuel KROKOFF,
born March 22, 1900 in Russia to Louis KROKOFF and Jenny GOLDBERG. Lived
in Brooklyn, NYC, New York and worked in the oil/petroleum business. Wife
was Rebecca (Rifka) NEEDLEMAN, born July 7, 1900 in Moliff, Russia to
Morris NEEDLEMAN and Nessa HERSHKOWITZ / HERSHOWITZ.

Murray's father Louis had one sibling, a sister named Lena. Lena's maiden
name has been listed variously as KROHAM (a corruption of KROKOFF, maybe?)
and GREGOFSKI. Lena's married name was SCHWARTZ; she was my
great-great-grandmother.

Anyone know anything about these families? Anything sound familiar here?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yad Vashem lists #hungary

Louis Schonfeld <Lmagyar@...>

We now have one team leader: Mark Benisz [MBenisz@email.msn.com]. One
additional team leader is needed. Since
Mark has no preference between the Debrecen and the Szombathely list, the
other team leader can choose his/her
preference. Will someone please step forward as the second team leader. If
it will help someone to decide, I will
take over as the second team leader if higher priorties intervene for that
person later on (of course, this may delay the Bere county list
preparations). I am happy to report that four individuals have volunteered
to do input work. We need
at least four more volunteers for a total of eight in order to do both lists
within a reasonable time frame. In order to
refresh memories, I have copied the original post about this. LS

I have just received the first batch of deportation lists for locations in
Hungary.

The lists are >from Debrecen and Szombathely. Each lists has about 4,000
names.

In addition to the name of the deportee is the maiden name of the deportee,
year of birth, town of birth, mother's maiden name and occupation. To start
the project I am requesting two team captains, one for each location, who in
turn will recruit additional volunteers. The team captains will be in
contact with Jewishgen's liaison for this project, MsRachelR@aol.com

The data >from these and other lists will be accumulated and become part of a
Jewishgen searchable database.

I will send the complete set of each town list to the respective team
captain.

Please let me hear >from you as soon as possible. When we complete these, Yad
Vashem will send us additional lists.

Genealogy in Corfu :
Family gatherings are popular nowadays. Georges JESSULLA seizes the

Miscellaneous
When « Rapschvir» was the capital of Alsatian Judaism:
Denis INGOLD and Gunter BOLL tell the history of the Ribeauvillé Jewish
community >from 1648 to 1750, using documents >from 1702 and 1718, and
earlier tombstone inscriptions. Family charts for the Lang and Rheinau

A trial among two Jewish families (1563-1581) :
The trial extends over several years. Pascal FAUSTINI has translated and
analysed the some 100 pages of the file, has located it in the political
and historic context of the time, when the first Jews settled in Metz in
1567.
In a second part, he intends to show the genealogical ties of his

Jebenhausen, Alsace and America :
Eliane Roos SCHUHL wonders why the sons of the Levi family >from Jebenhausen
