Polonnoye revision lists
#ukraine
David N. Sandler <dnsandle@...>
Polonnoye revision lists are located, at least in part, in the
Novograd-Volynsk District Tax Census Records, located in Zhitomir, in the Zhitomir Historical Archive. I obtained a report >from Boris Feldblyum, of FAST Genealogy Service, about 5 years ago, which listed a number of other towns in the region in addition to Polonnoye, as part of the Novograd-Volynsk District Tax Census Records, going back to 1816. Other listed towns include Baranovka, Berezdov, Korets, and Lyubar. Miriam Weiner's book Jewish Roots in Ukraine lists the fond and opis numbers for the files. Dave Sandler, Novato, CA

The tax census records, or revision lists as they are called, are located in the Zhitomir Historical Archive in Zhitomir. They are part of the Novograd-Volynsk (Yiddish "Zvhil") District Tax Census Records, which also contain lists for Baranovka and Berezdov. The 1818 Novograd-Volynsk District Tax Records also contain entries for Korets. The 1816 records contain entries for Lyubar. There may be, and most likely are, other towns included in these records, as I requested research for various family names, and these were the towns, including Polonnoye, where the family names popped up. Surname search: KRASINSKY

Aaron D. Gross <aaron@...>
I am looking for a Jacob KRASINSKY, born before 1838, who had
a son, Nechemiah b. 1855. Nechemiah married Rachel PODOLSKY (PODOLSKI?) in approximately 1875. Nechemiah emigrated to Philadelphia in the US in 1891, I think, and later changed his name to Nathan GROSS. According to the Hamburg database, Nechemiah may have lived in Shpola, Ukraine, prior to immigration. Any leads on the KRASINSKY surname would be appreciated. Aaron D. Gross

I am looking for descendants of the RICH, MICHELSON, FORMAN, HOLTZ,

These families are said to have been related to the BRIEF/BURACK family of Boston (at that time) and the GREENBERG family of Haverhill. All of the families originated in Volyn, possibly Zaslav, the area around Lutsk or Vladimir Volynsk. If anyone has any information please contact me. Articles about desecration of Jewish cemeteries are at least tangentially=
related to this List, nicht var? Hope so. = You may be interested in reading "The Carpentras Affair," in the November= 6th issue of "The New Yorker." Do so especially if you are a Francophile, yet even a mild interest in the dynamics of European small-town prejudice make it a good read. The desecration of the oldest cemetery in Europe still _in use_ (>from the= 14th cent.) = is the occasion of the piece, but it's really in the background and is given only a little description. What happens after the discovery ... therein lies the tale. Oh, have you ever wondered where Captain Dreyfus went after his return fr= om Devil's Island? Yes! The tax census records are held at the Zhitomir Historical Archive in Zhitomir. I got a report some years ago >from Boris Feldblyum who researched the Novograd-Volynsk District Tax Census Records, back to 1816, for various family names including SANDLER. No, I cannot make a certain connection to the families listed, as of yet, because my great-grandfather was born sometime shortly after 1858. Also, of course, the listings give the Russified names, not the Yiddish they used on the street. Still, I hope to make the connection in the near future.
