Finding my German family in the Netherlands #germany

Ellen Barnett Cleary

I am researching Hilda (WERTHEIMER) SONDHEIM, who moved with her
husband, William, to the Netherlands when the issues of WWII began. I do
not know where in the Netherlands they lived, but I think it was close
to Goch, Germany because her mother moved to Goch so she could visit her
daughter in the Netherlands, perhaps Rotterdam, but I am not at all
certain of that. Her mother sadly was captured by the Germans and died
in Auschwitz.

HIlda and William had a daughter named Elsie SONDHEIM. I do not know if
she too was in the Netherlands but I would like to find out.

Do any of you have experience researching the records of the
Netherlands? I would very much like to know where to write for
information on these people and welcome any advice you might offer.

I know these are slim bits of information to work from, but they are all
I have. I would like to at least see what I might be able to learn.

In English, the "possessive symbol" is called an APOSTROPHE, and is NEVER USED TO INDICATE
THE PLURAL OF A NOUN!

If the apostrophe is used to denote a different symbol in some other language, IT SHOULD NOT
BE USED AT ALL, if the communication is in English.

Lance:

My father's town was OTICK (now Ataki) in Bessarabia (now Moldova). I would love to have the Yiskor Book
translated. I did send $100 to Yefim a couple of years ago to have the Otick cemetery (located in nearby
town of Volchinitz) photographed, but I think that?s still in the works.

Would $100 help to get the translation of the Yiskor book done?

Best,

The existence of the kehal or kahal #ukraine

Marilyn Levinson

Dear Friends
I have been researching the Jewish governing organization known as the
kahal. I first read that it was abolished by edict of the Tsar in 1844.
However,
many articles I read about Jewish affairs post 1844 speak of the kahal, and
other articles talk about its re-emergence in the modern period. Could
anyone please tell me if the kahal existed post 1844 even if it was not
recognized by the Russian government and in general what type of
duties they carried out. Many thanks.
