Thank You #general

Rica Goldberg

Dear All,

Although I hope I have thanked everyone privately who answered my appeal for
information on Abolnik in Lithuania, I would like to thank you all publicly
(incase I overlooked answering anyone) for taking the trouble first to answer
and secondly to answer in such detail, with extra special thanks to one
particular lady. (Don't know if I would be allowed to reveal her name here).

I have printed out everyone's reply and filed them in my manual "Goldberg"
file. By telling me so much about the North east part of Lithuania and the
Atlas family >from there, who married into the Goldberg family, I now feel I
know where I might begin any paid research in Lithuania on the Goldberg
family.

Even though perhaps they are not expressed often enough, our sincerest thanks
must go to the moderator, and all the people who work to put out JewishGen
every day and to all those people who do work we cannot see. Like me, I
suppose all you Genners are addicted to reading it. It becomes compulsive
because it is so helpful.

Thanks again.

Sincerely

Rica B Goldberg

New list of Jewish names from Belgium #general

Micheline GUTMANN <MichelineGUTMANN@...>

We have now a quite complete dictionnary of Jewish people
(about 100000) coming >from everywhere passing through Brussels or
staying there , >from the 18th century until recent times.
You may consult the Index of names on GenAmi Website.

We recently received three new lists of names.
The names begining with H, P and V have been written
on GenAmi Website by Robbert de GROOT.

Some technical problems explain that these Indexes are not yet complete.
Claude GEUDEVERT who did this inestimable work during ten years,
has an old American computer with a transformer which is out of work.

We hope he can find a solution soon.

WWI skip trace #general

james gross <larklane@...>

Hello,
In a recent post, Alfred A. Goldberg
(alfran@...) asked about finding a relative
from Brooklyn,NY who was an aviator in WWI
Alfred,
I would try to get these docs:

WW1 draft registration card=
write to Na in Ga w/ an address near 1917.

1915 NY State census.

Military file=write to the Military Archives in St Louis,Mo.
---------------
What you are doing is skip tracing this person. A census will tell
you the names of the children, and their ages. Once you identify the
names of the children and ages, you can search for the boys if they
are deceased now via the LDS soc sec death index. If you can get a
match on one of the boys, (via approx age of death), you can pull
his obit. The obit will tell you who his siblings are/were. This
usually leads to the married girls. The obit will give the name
of the cemetary and you can contact the cemetary and get the
name & address of the c/o person. Your path may not go exactly
like this, but if you do all the research and are lucky, you may
find yourself calling/ writing a descendant one day.

I beg to differ, but as of 1997, Brest is in and on the Belarus border,
lower
southwestern corner.

At various times, it has been Poland, Russia, Poland, and in the
"province", not country of Lithuania, during 3rd partition of Poland.

All this according to my handy dandy Hammond World Atlas.

Treblinka death camp list and Belorussian Cemeteries #general

pauld2@...

Hello All,

I am searching for a source of information that would confirm that members of
my family were executed in the Treblinka Death Camp. Does anyone know of a
document listing its victims?

Also, I am searching for a resource that would list Jewish cemeteries or
other sources of Jewish heritage in Belarus. The Polish tourist agency has a
map that publicizes Jewish heritage sites there but the Belarussian
government is not as market-savvy and I am searching for an alternative
resource.

Thanks,

Paul Schkaff

EdG Creek <edgcreek@...>

Has anyone ever heard of this city? I just received my Aunt's Naturalization
Papers and it states that this was her last residence in Russia. I tried to
locate it on Map Quest, but had no luck. Since she was 6 months old when she
traveled here, I wonder if the spelling is correct. Any information would be
appreciated.
