1825 Pernumernaten list plus
#hungary
Louis Schonfeld <lmagyar@...>
A few announcements:
1.Marc Polster has put up the following database on our website: Pernumeranten >from Sefer Schne Apharim by Rabbi Hirsch Brod. Published in Prag 1825 Subscribers of the religious book discussing the mystical aspects of the Jewish holidays Direct access is - http://www.jewishgen.org/Hungary/Data.htm It is currently the first item on the Data page of the website. Hopefully it is self-explanatory. Questions or comments about this list should be directed to me at Lmagyar@en.com 2. There are four volunteers transcribing the Munkacs burial list from Hebrew into English. We need one more volunteer who is familiar with Hebrew to do about five pages >from the list. It takes about 30 minutes to do a page. I can send photocopies of the pages and a sample entry on an excel spreadsheet with column headings. If someone comes forward soon we can have that project completed in several weeks. 3. In the meantime our 1848 census project is moving forward. Would the current volunteers of that project please report your progress to Marc Polster and myself. 4. I would request that one of our Israeli subscribers find out more about the Yad Vashem's proposed "Lists of Lists" and what role can the h-sig play in contributing the names of the Hungarian victims of the Holocaust. If you haven't visited our website recently I urge you to do so. Marc has done an excellent job, and I for one am very proud of it as I hope you are as well. Please visit our website at: http://www.jewishgen.org/Hungary/

Budapest Cemetery

Patricia J. Weisshaus <patjw28@...>
I heard some very alarming news yesterday >from my sister-in-law who lives
in Budapest. She said some of the cemeteries are being disturbed in order to make room for the newly dead. She said her mother's gravesite was gone. Can anyone confirm or deny that this is true? Pat

I wrote a message yesterday about the Budapest Cemeteries being destroyed
in order to make room for new burials, according to my sister-in-law. Today my husband talked to his brother (her husband) and he said, yes, this was happening to the state cemeteries but not the Jewish ones. I hope I didn't upset anyone by my original message. Pat

SPIEGEL from Brody
#galicia
Len Pincus <lennyp@...>
My GM Rifka Leah SPIEGEL was born in Brody in 1867 and Came to the US in
about 1890. Where might I find any records for the family she left behind in Brody? Her father's name was Louis and her mother was Pauline. I assume they were both dead by 1896 since her first two children were named after her parents. Any help or connections will be appreciated. Len Pincus lennyp@pe.net

"And I Still See Their Faces" page index
#galicia
Jane Lachs <Jane@...>
For your information.
Please excuse the duplication if you've seen this on Jewishgen. I visited the photo exhibition "And I Still See Their Faces" and also bought the book. Jewish faces in Poland before the war. It's a beautiful album with hundreds of photos that are quite moving when you read the accompaning text. If you want to know whether a photo of someone you are researching is in the book I have scanned the index and put it on my homepage. But even if you don't find an ancestor it's worth buying the book to get an idea how they lived in Poland before the second world War. Regards >from Jane Lachs Jane@Henio.Muc.De Researching SHAW, TINGLE, CRAWSHAW, FIRTH, BREARLEY, HAIGH, BEAUMONT, CARR in Yorkshire. LACHS in Stryhance or anywhere in the Ukraine and anywhere else. STERN in Berezany or anywhere in the Ukraine SILBERFELD in Potoczany or anywhere in the Ukraine and anywhere else. <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/9499/> MODERATOR NOTE: I have seen this book and noted that there are very many photos of residents of Galician towns, names mentioned. Thanks, Jane, for sharing this with us.
