There is a book called "Ad Meah Ve`esrim" published by Reuben Mass,
Jerusalem, latest edition 1997, giving conversion tables for Hebrew and
Gregorian dates >from 1900 to 2019.
According to this book, Yom Kippur of 1956 was on Saturday, Sept. 15th.

Alexander Sharon:

I have seen few very good Jewish-Gregorian calendars day converters.
There is a question seems to me no one can answer yet:

How to establish a Gregorian calendar day for a Jewish Holiday, say eg.
what was a calendar day for the Yom Kippur in 1956?

Alexander Sharon
Dear Alexander,

10 Tishri 5717 Saturday 15 September 1956

Alexander,

First buy a Mac, an iMac will do nicely; next get the shareware
program Jewish Calender.

Yom Kippur in 1956 was Sept. 15.

Best Wishes, Larry

Dear Alexander

There is a program called Jewish Calender V2.0 by Frank Yellin, 510
Beresford Street, Redford City CA 94061 which is free shareware. I have the
Mac version. Don't know if there is a PC version

ps. It took me 3 seconds to find that Yom Kippur in 1956 was on 15th
September, 10 Tishrei - 5717

that. It also includes an intoduction to the history and operation of

Isadore LEVINE: 1875 - 1936 #general

Ricki L. Zunk <rickiz@...>

I hope that some person can help me, as I can't get anywhere with
"Canada411" today.

The brother of my mggm lived most of his adult life in Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada. It is my belief that the family originally came from
Lithuania -- but I cannot prove that as yet.

Anyway, his name was Isadore LEVINE. It is my understanding that he
died some time in 1936, and was buried in the Beth Jacob Cemetery. That
is ALL the information I have in this regard.

I found Beth Jacob Synagogue listed at 375 Aberdeen in Hamilton, but no
listing for a Beth Jacob Cemetery. I would like to get in touch with
the people at that cemetery, in the hope that perhaps they can take a
photograph of Isadore's tombstone and send it to me. Since I live in
Miami, Florida, it's rather a l-o-n-g drive to get there myself. I'm
hoping that the Hebrew inscription on his tombstone will help to link
him to the rest of the LEVINE/LEVINSKY/BIALAGORSKY family. I'd also
like to know, >from his date of death, if he was the older or younger
brother of my mggm, Ida Levinsky COHAN (who died in Philadelphia, PA in
1934).

Any and all help with this would be very much appreciated. I'd call,
but with the way my phone luck has been going lately, it will wind up
costing me the price of an airline ticket to finally get through to the
proper person at the cemetery.

Thanks,

(Mrs.) Ricki Randall Zunk
Kendall (Miami), FL

Searching WACHTERMAN #general

Stephanie Lewis <steflewis@...>

Hello Genners!

I was wondering if anyone had any information about the ancestors of
my paternal great grandfather, Samuel WACHTERMAN. He was born in
about 1892 somewhere in Russia, and died in November, 1949, in
Brooklyn. Since he died in 1949, I am unable to yet obtain a copy of
his death certificate >from the New York Municipal Archives (they only
have death certificates through 1948), to try to determine his
parents.

Samuel and his wife, Fannie ROSENBERG had eight children (one of whom
was my grandmother Yetta WITZ), and lived in Brooklyn essentially
forever, after coming to the US.

Any help you can provide will be most appreciated!
