Hi to all!
My first message to Galizianers:

Jane Lowenkron Foss wrote:
...my father's family was >from ... Derevnia, a tiny near-by shtetl of about
100 people.>

Are you speaking about Derevcin, NordEast of Mogilev Podolski? It seems too
far. If yes, never heard of pogroms in that place or in the near Shargorod
in 1903-4?

I am researching on LUFT and GROBMAN >from Kolomyya and Czernowitz.
Does some of the LDS films have good sources for Jewish genealogy for that
area?

Thank you

I'm a new member of this group.

My family is >from Tluste (Tolstoye), a small town near the
Carpats, near the Dniester River. My grandfather and many uncles died
during the Holocaust in or near the town.

I visited the place 2 years ago , and I found a small
village nearby where it was placed a labour camp.

I have videos of my visit, and I will like to make contact

Please e-mail me directly as I'm sure this is of little interest to

Actually, I'd like to know the answer as well. I have family buried in
Toronto, not Baltimore, but I've noticed similar notes on that
cemetery's map.

Israeli writer: Gershon SHOFMAN #general

Rhonda <hawkins@...>

I would like ANY information on writer Gershon SHOFMAN. He was born in 1880
in Orsha, Belarus. He married Annie Planck in 1921 in Austria or Israel.
They had 3 children: Peter (1922), Gertrude (1924) and Moshe (aft 1928).
Gershon died in Israel in 1972. Annie (born 1900) was alive at the time of
his death. I don't believe any of his children were living in Israel at
that time.

Gershon's brother Moishe Shofman (born 1874) is my great-grandfather.

Would appreciate any help with this line. The information I have (which the
above is pretty much it) is >from a book I found that was written about the
stories Gershon Shofman wrote.

Regards,
Rhonda Shofman Hawkins

Locating Brooklyn / L.A. Cousin #general

Sherribob@...

Hi everyone, I have been trying to locate a first cousin for some years now,
and so am throwing the information out to you resourceful JewishGenners in the
hopes something may ring a bell.

Beatrice RATOWSKY born June 3, 1913 at 1881 Dean Street, Brooklyn, New York
Parents: Benjamin RATOWSKY and Leah SAMUELS RATOWSKY.
Called herself "Beattie", and may have spelled her proper first name
"Beatryce".
In the late 1930's or early 1940's Beattie moved to Los Angeles, and may have
owned her own dress shop.
Married Paul POWELL on September 7, 1956 in San Francisco.

Thank you,

Sherri Bobish

Minsk Ghetto Book #general

Susan Lieberman <viukerville@...>

Dear Friends,

There has been much discussion of the Minsk Ghetto, therefore I am posting
the following information. A book written by Ana Krasnaperko, (a cousin of
a friend of mine) who still lives in Minsk, is available >from the
publisher Haus Villigst 5840 Schwerte, Germany (tel :02304/755230). A copy
of the book in German has been donated to the Holocaust Museum. The book is
called Briefe Meiner Erinnerung : Mein Uberleben im Judischen Ghetto von
Minsk 1941-1942. Roughly that translates to My letter living through the
Jewish Ghetto in Minsk. There were many Germans >from Bremen and Hanover
deported to Minsk. The book has photos and text but not lists of names.
Ana escaped to the woods with her mother who was a doctor and lived with
the partisans.
