Re: Holocaust victims database project (fwd) (fwd) #hungary

Ujlaki Gyorgy <ujlaki.gyorgy@...>

Dear H-SIGers,

The Hungarian Auschwitz Foundation - Holocaust Documentation
Center (HDC) will receive permanent home in a former landmark
synagogue in Budapest center, reported Hungarian daily
Nepszabadsag. According to the daily that has the largest
circulation in Hungary and is close to the Hungarian Socialist Party,
the Hungarian Ministry of Culture notified HDC that it will be able to
move in the offices adjacent to the former synagogue. The the
building of the synagogue, once restored to its former beauty,
will house, with UNESCO support, a permanent exhibition on
Holocaust in Hungary.

UGY comment: The aim of HDC is to preserve the memory of our
martyrs, so probably it would be a good idea to try to involve
them in the names project.

What do you think about it?

Gyuri

Database for Hungarian counties (fwd) #hungary

Ujlaki Gyorgy <ujlaki.gyorgy@...>

MTB <71431.1612@compuserve.com> 1999.03.02. 11:40:21 -5h-kor irta:

Gyuri's ideas for what to include in a database by counties sounds like a
wonderful and ambitious project. Would the Academy of Science/Institute
of History consider giving a grant for this work? Or possibly the
Institute of Demography in Israel?

UGY: It is a good idea! Once we are over with project planning, we might
start fundraising.

Also, I'd like to suggest you also include, when the record gives it:
occupation

UGY: I agree in principle, but how do we find it out?

cause of death the recorder's comments. I'm just finishing
the computerization of all data on the birth/marriage/burial records for
1828/33-1920 in Deutschkreutz. These three pieces of information are
critical to an understanding of the person's experience, I think, and well
as very useful in tracing individuals.

UGY: Agree!

Shabat Shalom to all!

Gyuri
