The name: "Shulie" #general

cbishoes <cbishoes@...>

I hope that I won't be repeating a topic that has been discussed to
death. I have had my grandmother's collection of postcards (in Russian)
translated into English. In several the writer asks her about a person
named "Shulie." It is likely that all of these writers were primarily
Yiddish speakers. Does anybody out there know what other names Shulie
might refer to?
Thanking you in advance.

New York area cemeteries #general

Shirley Wilets

Searching for the Gomel Chesed Cemetery in which my father's cousins are
interred according to an obituary of 1983 in the Elizabeth, New Jersey's
Daily Journal.
The name doesn't show up on the list of cemeteries in the New York City
area. I'm wondering if it is a section in a cemetery.

Would appreciate any helpful suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

Re: deportation of Jews from France #general

BetteJoy <bettejoy@...>

Most of the French Jews were sent to Auschwitz where they perished.
Others >from the south of France were also sent to Vilna, Lithuania
where they were imprisoned in the primitive Ninth Fort until their
murder in the nearby forests. In the Ninth Fort one can see messages
that they scratched into the cement walls prevailing upon the Jewish
people to REMEMBER.

Sunday 2/21/99, The Last Days At the DIA #general

Leatrager@...

Why didn't I think of this sooner??? On Sunday night at 7:00p.m. there
is going to be the last showing of the Documentary Film The Last Days.
It is the narrative of Holocaust Survivors through the Steven Spielberg
Foundation, and it refers to the deportation and murder of the Jews of
Hungary and those regions Hungary had occupied during W.W.II. Sidney
Bolkosky did a review of the movie in the Jewish News on pps.82-84, and
it is also up for the Best Documentary of 1999.
I will be leaving the JCC at 5:35pm on Sunday and would be delighted to
drive to the DIA and maybe hook up with those of you South oF Detroit.
How about a discussion afterwards at a coffee shop?
Just e-mail me and I will contact you tomorrow night.

Searching LUBELSKY/LUBELSKI Argentina via Suwalki #general

Brichg@...

I am trying to find descendents of a Mottel Lubelsky & his wife Toibe
Gitla(KLEINMAN)LUBELSKY. They were >from Suwalki/ Augustow area. Most of
their children went to New York, but a few remained in Poland with their
parents & probably perished. But, three daughters went to Buenos Aires,
Argentina around 1928.
Mary, Dora & Rebecca. Mary we know arrived on the S.S. Almanzora. In 1928
she was working as a servant girl for a Marcos CZCIENCIELSKY, he had a
furniture factory. Their names would have become Spanish equivalents. They
had relatives of their father's side of the family already there.

I hope this is familiar to someone out there, I'm sure we've got cousins &
share the same grt.grandparents , Isaac & Jennie Kleinman.
Thank you much,
Betsy Gilon

Re: Rabbi's Encyclopedia #belarus

BSwart10@...

In answer to your message Myra, Rev. was used frequently in those days and
interchangeable with Rabbi.

I am Research RUDNICK, and I also noticed that the Rabbi that married my folks
was called RABBI BARNET RUDNICK >from Brooklyn. That was in the year 1919.

Does anyone know if the book at the Library would have any information about a
Rabbi Barnet RUDNICK?

REF: Standards for Family History #general

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>

Please allow me to disagree with Herbert.

I just completed a family history book of over 160 pages. It contains
family trees, documents of familiar or historical importance, description
about my shtetl when I was young (ha, ha), my youth, how my parents and
grandparents lived there, their business and personal affairs, many
pictures (old photographs), some family gossips and funny stories, and
more, much more, hopefully written in a gay and joyful spirit. It also
contains my memoirs of the Shoah period. It remembers all my relatives who
were murdered by the nazis.

I would dare to say that a family history book should be written in a
literary style such as a romance or fiction. I would also suggest that it
has to be written with the heart not with journalistic coldness. If so, it
certainly will make much better reading then obituaries :-)

regards to all
Tom
