Searching: Abe EPSTEIN, Jewish Home for the Aged in Reseda,CA #general

Ellen Sattler-Harpin <EHarpin@...>

Hello,
Is there anyone who knows if the Jewish Home for the Aged in Reseda,
California, has a web site? I've been unable to determine if the most
likely Abe EPSTEIN I found on the SSDI is indeed the one I'm seeking. I
would like to know if the one who died there on July 6, 1969 was my late
father's father. I do have the death certificate number in case someone
has the ability to look at those. I have written to my father's
half-siblings with no response. Please reply privately if you can help.
I am hoping to find out who is listed as next-of-kin to determine if
this is my gf. Thank you.
Ellen in Winter Springs, FL

My father-in-law Samuel (Yevsei) Rapoport was born in Krasnoluki in 1898. His father, Yudah
is buried in Lepel. We just received a photo of the headstone.

Lepel and 22 miles northeast of Borisov. It is also very near the towns of
Chasniki and Cholopenichi, where there has been a TOUGER presence. I would be
grateful for any relevant information about Krasnoluki. I am especially
interested in knowing if there is any information >from the 1860's/1870's.
MODERATOR'S NOTE: Sheldon, you might want to let people know how to get
photos of the headstones. The members of this SIG who have family >from

stones in the cemetery and create a database before the the cemetery
disappears.

Velvel and Feivel #belarus

Re Larry Goldblat's query on the origins of the names "Velvel" and "Feivel":

"Velvel" is obviously derived >from "William". There seems to be a line
which extends >from the Alps to the Rhine to the English Channel, the
crossing of which causes "gu" to become "w". Thus, Guglielmo, Guillermo
and Guilliame become Wilhelm, Willem and William. When one goes towards
Eastern Europe, however, the equivalents to "William" include Vilim, Bela,
and, of course, Velvel.

As for Feivel, that seems to be >from the Feivush, which is derived >from the
Greek Phoebus.
