DO NOT FORWARD: New Virus WarninG - IT'S A HOAX!
#latvia
Elsebeth Paikin
PLEASE EVERYBODY!
INSTEAD OF PANICKING AND THEN CLOGGING UP ALL THE SYSTEMS I SUGGEST THAT YOU: DO NOT ****NOT*** FORWARD ALL THESE WARNINGS BEFORE YOU HAVE CHECKED THEM OUT - WHICH IS VERY EASY! You can check out http://www.av.ibm.com/BreakingNews/HypeAlert/Crew/ or http://www.datafellows.com/news/hoax.htm ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC VIRUS ALERT : In a message dated 1/11/99 8:00:32 AM Eastern Standard Time,rmay@maxinc.comwrites:Frogs YOU FIND the following message >from June 18, 1998!!!! At that time it was already an oldie!!! Quote: Two new warnings have appeared (or re-appeared) in e-mail recently, often attached to old familiar warnings about "Win a Holiday" or "Returned -- Unable to Deliver". These new warnings say that you should never download a "Bud Frogs" screensaver, or a file called "BUDDYLST.ZIP", because if you do your hard drive will be erased, or your password will be stolen. And, of course, you should forward this warning to all your friends! (The "Bud Frogs" warning says that "THIS JUST WENT INTO CIRCULATION YESTERDAY"; it has been saying this for months.) These warnings are, interpreted literally, false and misleading. Simply downloading a screen saver or a ZIP file will not do any damage to your computer. On the other hand, if you get a program >from a stranger (or even an unexpected program that seems to come >from a friend), it's a bad idea to run it even if it isn't either "Bud Frogs" or "BUDDYLST.ZIP". So forget the specifics of the warnings, and just remember that unknown software can be dangerous. Don't install it or run it. It won't hurt you if you just download it and don't run it, but on the other hand why waste the time? Just delete it, be it frogs, buddies, or something else entirely. And, of course, don't forward either the "Bud Frogs" or the "BUDDYLST" warning to all your friends; while it's possible that there are damaging programs out there with these names, there are many others with other names, and getting people excited about these particular ones is, again, just a waste of time... end of quote! Re: Bios of Manhattan judges
#general
Davesap@...
There are two sources that I know of to find at least some basic information.
The first is called The American Bench which comes out every year I believe. The second is Martindale-Hubbell which has a listing of all the lawyers in the United States and many internationally. Both of these should be available at any law school library and many public libraries in the United States. In Israel, I would try one of the law school libraries. -- David Saperstein

Reuven Singer <reuven-s@...>
You are correct. I too am in Jerusalem and there certainly has not been an
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
English phone book in the last few years. That one was sort of a fiasco as they attempted to list first names separately but forgot to remove the vav tying the names of family members together eg. the usual Cohen, Reuven v'Sara. So they had a long list of first names beginning with the vav - v'Sara. Reuven Singer
Sorry, but I live in Jerusalem and I haven't seen an English phone book

Dear Stuart: I see you had some success with Yad Vashem. I too had a similar experience regarding the names on the list. Moshe Tuchman was a member of the Kartuz Bereza Organization in Israel that apparently assembled the 4500 or so names to submit to Yad Vashem. I suspect he listed himself as a relative so that these names could be accepted. I also attempted to contact him this summer, but was told by Chaim Ben-Israel, who heads the organization, that he unfortunately passed away several months ago. Mr. Ben-Israel did put me in contact with a woman who was a friend of a family member of mine in Bereza, who despite her age, was able to confirm the family connections I had put together >from the Yad Vashem lists. I would try to contact Mr. Ben Israel in Israel. They are glad to help and are grateful that people show an interest in their town since it no longer exists as a Jewish community. I would also attempt to locate the Memorial Book they published in 1993. Joe Ross, Philadelphia Searching: BUCHALTER, ROSENFARB, KAPLAN-Kartuz Bereza, Selets, Malech
