Re: On giving out information

Mark and Debbie Burr <ember@...>
I have been working on genealogy for about 20 years, mostly my husbands
line until recently. I have found that it is best to share only a bare bones family tree with total strangers, because as Harold Pollins says you do not know what they are going to do with it. Send your direct line only to the requester.(You, your father or mother depending on which line the person is researching, their parents etc.) Give only general info, not total dates . That should be enough for the requester to see if you are actually related. If it turns out that there is a connection, you may, after numerous contacts want to share more. Or not!! Do not feel obligated to give all you have. But do not close the door on what could be the person with the info you have been searching for. Hope this helps. Deborah Kopstein Burr

Re: Baron Hirsch Lodge
#general
EHecht4085 <ehecht4085@...>
Dear Bob,
You might try writing to the Mt. Hebron Cemetery for who may be maintaining the Lodge plots. If the plots are full and the Lodge is defunct, you could try the NY State Insurance Fund, who became the holder of all records for organizations that had gone out of business. There is also a book that has a list of Landsmanschaften and sometimes tells what may have beome of the organization. You could also try YIVO(at their new Headquarters) in New York City. I believe that it is on 16th Street, but do not think they have moved to the new address as yet. Hope this helps. Eli C. Hecht ehecht4085@aol.com
