I always knew my grandfather established a 2nd family after leaving
(and quite possibly, still with) my grandmother and their 8 children in Chicago, anywhere >from 1910-1930. Then, while looking for him in the 1930 Census, it shows the possibility of my grandfather establishing a 3rd family, as well, and I seek to connect with descendants of families #2 and #3: Barnett/Ben/Bernard BLUMENTHAL: b. Kovno/Siauliai, Russian Lithuania, 1864-1870 Tailor/cleaning store owner, Chicago a/o Milwaukee d. 1948, Milwaukee 1930 address: 1233 S. Spaulding, Chicago 1940 address: 1215 Sawyer, Chicago Wife #2: Sarah BLUMENTHAL (NOTE: Wife #1, my grandmother, was also named Sarah) b. ca. 1880, Russia Children: Edith, Sara 1930 address: 1233 S. Spaulding, Chicago Wife #3: Bessie/Betty (WAGNER) BLUMENTHAL b. 1896-1898, Russia, Children: (all 3 Chicago-born) Morry, Ben, Samuel 1940 address: 1215 Sawyer, Chicago Unable to locate marriage records with either of these wives, or birth records for any of these children. 1852 Cadastral Map of Dynow in the Gesher Galicia Map Room
#galicia
Jay Osborn <jay.osborn@...>
Today in the Gesher Galicia Map Room we've posted an excellent map of
an important Galician city: the complete 1852 cadastral map of Dynow, now in southeast Poland near Rzeszow and Przemysl. http://maps.geshergalicia.org/cadastral/dynow-1852/ Clearly lithographed and selectively colored, the map includes property numbers for both buildings and parcels, enabling anyone with vital and other records to locate family homes and businesses in the historical city. Already in 1852, the city had a well-built market square, and the map also shows the Great Synagogue and the largeJewish cemetery, along with many other features of a small but solid settlement. Acquisition of the map scan images and assembly of this browsable map were made possible by Gesher Galicia member contributions to the Dynow town project, an element of our Galician Archival Records Project (GARP); more info about our town projects is available here: http://www.geshergalicia.org/town-projects/ The generosity of those contributions now makes this map available to everyone. The original paper map sheets are preserved not far >from Dynow in the Polish Historical Archives in Rzeszow: http://www.rzeszow.ap.gov.pl/ The GG Map Room home page: http://maps.geshergalicia.org/ Jay Osborn Gesher Galicia Digital Map Manager Warsaw, Poland maps@geshergalicia.org

Rachel Perl born in Budapest in 1934
#hungary
michael_perl9@...
I am hoping one of our members will have some advice for me on the followin=
g problem: Rachel Perl was born in Budapest in 1934 to Sandor Perl and Ilona Szenes. I= lona died in 1942. We never knew of Rachel's existence except for the Nevek= larsfeld suvivors' list compiled in 1946. This list was unavailable for a l= ong while ever since the neveklarsfeld website shut down but thankfully it = has been transcribed and is now available again on the US Holocaust Museum = website. Even the name Rachel seems strange for someone born in Hungary at = that time so there may be a transcription error but this is all I have to g= o with. Rachel was living at Delibab 33 in 1946, which appears to have been an orph= anage. Her father survived too but was living at a different address. There= is no trace of either of them after this.=20 The exciting prospect is that Rachel may still be alive but I have no idea = if she (and her father) left Hungary or perhaps changed their name. The MAC= SE records have nothing about her and the cemetery have no records of these= two.=20 Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Michael Perl New York

What "registration" number are you referring to? I've used plenty of LDS microfilms and, other than their catalog numbers (e.g. 1792210), I don't know of any registration number. Hello,
How do I find vital records for the Jewish communities of Vradiste and Bosace. My great grandparents Bernhard and Lina (Kraus) Glaser lived in Hodonin. Bernhard came >from Vradiste, originally. Lina and her father (Hermann Kraus) came >from Bosace (Bosatch). Thanks, Rick Glaser Owings Mills MD Moderator:When asking for assistance with your research it helps if you indicate the dates that your ancestors lived in the places you list and which resources you have used. Vradiste and Bosace are probably and Bossacz, Trencsen, and Vradist, Nyitra, which are now in Slovakia. Best place to start your research is the JewishGen Hungary database but best to use the Hungarian names if your relatives lived there before the end of World War I. Slovakia.

The following excerpt is >from a book (Wanderings - 1944) my great
uncle Moshe Melamed (1882-1954) wrote in Yiddish about his life in Ungheni, Bessarabia (now Moldova). This portion talks about his departure >from the village with his wife (Bobele) - later Miriam - on a wagon on their way to America: "Moyshl kissed his little brothers David, Lipeh, and the infant Hershele. He said farewell to his sisters Elke and Rokhl and to all of his cousins and the friends who were hanging on to the wagon. The wagon moved away and a cloud of dust followed, the crowd remained standing and white kerchiefs were waving in the wind until the wagon disappeared behind the Bareshier Mountains. The village was no longer visible. The first night was spent in Brichan in an inn. It was so crowded they had to sleep on the ground. It was very noisy because a traveling group of Yiddish actors were rehearsing the Goldfaden play, "Shulamit." . . . They were up early the next morning. They were unwashed, uncombed, red-eyed and they were on their way again. [He goes on to describe the beauty of Bessarabian fields.] He later writes: "Bobele's shoes were full of water as they crossed the narrow stream that separated Russian soil and Austrian soil. Moyshl held Bobele's hand and didn't let go. " All I know after that is that they departed Liverpool and arrived in Philadelphia in 1905. My uncle went on to publish Yiddish fiction and was a regular journalist reviewing Yiddish theater for Philadelphia and NY Yiddish publications.
