Jason,

There is no town by such exact name in the Eastern Europe countries.
This is most probably village Sloboda, Jewish settlement in modern Belarus
at 5510 2911, Lepel vicinity in Vitebsk Guberniya.

This is of course just a guess since there virtually tens of places all over
Ukraine and Belarus with name Sloboda (Svoboda). Above listed place is only
one known as Jewish community.

Sloboda means a settlement in Ukrainian, hence so many places have this
name.

Marcia Freedman #unitedkingdom

Angie Elfassi

Hi,

I dont know if this is the correct forum for my question but -

Im trying to contact someone by the name of Marcia Freedman who has tested on FTDNA.

She is 2nd - 3rd cousin and I would like to contact her. Ive tried writing to the
email attached to the test flag but to no avail. That email address is also showing
up in my contact list as belonging to someone else.

It is more than possible that someone else is managing several tests. If anyone
has any ideas please contact me privately - I can share someone else's name.

Can anyone suggest anything further to do? I have written several times to that
email address.

Thanks

Regards,
Angie Elfassi

Sue Levy posted that the New Zealand Papers Past Archive no longer exists online.
However, when I go to their website: https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/, it shows
?they last updated newspapers as of June 2016. I was able to access newspapers.
The site has over 3 million pages of newspapers. Their website now contains more
Than newspapers: magazines and journals, letters and diaries and parliamentary
papers--

The list of newspapers contained on Papers Past may be found at:
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/all

They have a new platform for the website which has changed/enhanced some of their

List of Russian Stalag Prisoners #general

eran shayshon <eshayshon@...>

Dear all,
My gradfather who was a soldier in the Red Army and was as missing
in November 1942. The next thing that we know, he appeard sometime
in 1944 in Chernowitz, Ukraine. We do not know what happened between
his date of disappearance and his reapearance in 1944. Several
circumstantial evidence support the idea that was held prisoned by
the Nazis in a POW camp (Stalag). I am looking for evidence to
support this. Does anyone know of list of Russian prisoners put in
Stalags by the Nazis in the area of Ukraine?
Thanks,
Eran Shayshon

Joe writes:

"Visiting a cemetery is a shlep. Asking someone to visit a distant cemetery
and take pictures of a grave or graves is requesting someone to go way out
of his/her way for you.

I would like to suggest that before posting such a request to this group,
we place a call to the cemetery office (use one of the name locator sites)
and ask if the cemetery has this service available and if there is a cost
for the service.

Fortunately, we have many dedicated volunteers but in my opinion,we really
have an obligation to try the above first"

Suggestions:

Actually, there are several sources which have been around for several
years:

1. Findagrave.com --- pictures usually are there
2. Raogk.org - local volunteers who have offered. This is the reincarnation
of the site created perhaps 15-18 years ago.
3. Rootsweb.ancestry.com - local volunteers who have offered. Either in the
mailing lists or on the county sites.

Cemeteries are in the business of selling lots, and coordinating burials.
Often there is but one person in the office. Sometimes you may get lucky,
but there is a least one national "chain" that charges about $40 for the
service.

Descendants of Sprintze daughter of Naftai KATZ #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

According to our family tree we descendant of R' Naftali KATZ's
("Smichat Chachamim") daughter Sprinze. I have seen several family
trees of her descendants but after some 4-5 generations our branch
disappears >from the published trees and I am trying to "tie up" some
lose ends.

Sprintze had a son and grandson , Shmuel and Aryeh Leib, who were at
some point Rabbis of Kremenitz. These seem to be my forfathers. Our
branch seems to go to a daughter (name unknown) who married a yoseph,
listed as Rabbi of Breznitz (probably in the area of Rava Ruska).
They had a son name Israel (of Ostroh) who in turn had a son who
Yoseph married the daughter of the Admo'r of Lechowitz. We are not
descendants of the latter Yoseph but of a brother , David.

I have not found any published trees of Shmuel and Aryeh Leib's above
unnamed daughter. I would also be interested in identifying and
details regarding the above R' Yoseph of Breznitz.

TIA.
Chag Sameach
