Final (?) qs. on Red Cross cards #general

IsraelP <p2o5rock@...>

I appreciate everyone's patience as I wade through the
Red Cross cards >from Yad VaShem. I know that some of
them have seemed trivial, but everything is trivial if
you already know the answer. Three more questions.

1) On one card, the last entry is "Jul 1944 to Maidanek."
Are there Maidanek records available somewhere?

2) The following notations appear on the bottom of some
of the cards:

RBA.f.Wg.Koblenz
f.Dr.Julius Simon, Ffm.

Reg.Bez.A.Koblenz
f.Eckstein

RBA f.Wg.Koblenz
f.RA Konirsch,Mu[with an umnlaut].

Do these notations (I have one or two of each, not necessarily
for people who seem connected to one another) have to do
with the person making the inquiry to the Red Cross? Or
something to do with the registration?

3) Three cards show that the people mentioned were in Budapest
in 1946-7. All would be in their seventies or eighties today.
What is the next step in tracing what happened to them?

Thanx again for your patience.

Names on Headstones #general

Glenda Rogers <gar929@...>

I have photos of the headstones of my grandmother, her sister and
her brother and they all appear to have different parental names on
it. Any idea what the explanation would be?

Re: Drohobycz #galicia

Simon Barak

The town is usually called Drogobych. It is south to Lvov in Ukraine and
was an important Kehilla that managed the matters of neighbouring
Borislav (where my GGF lived). You could have found it even on your
mispelling. I wrote Drohobycz in the Shtetl Seeker and voila!
Coordinates 4921 2330 appeared.

Iasi (Jassy) Romania family #general

JimYarin <jimyarin@...>

I recently received information about the building the GOLDNER family owned in
Iasi, Romania, address No. 9 Strada C. Dobrogeanu-Ghera (formerly Strade Gh.
Mirzescu). In 1948, one Elisa Ungar managed the building, and occupied one of
the apartments. The other apartments were occupied by tenants Bronzon,
Schwartz, Herscovici, Iancovici, and Kleiner. Elisa Ungar subsequently came to
Israel, and in 1958 lived at 12 Victor Hugo Street, Iaffo-Tel-Aviv (Jaffa?).

If any of this rings a bell, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: DP camps at Deggendorf #general

Jim & Sara Feldman <feldmans@...>

My understanding is that Deggendorf had an UNWRA Camp that served refugees
evacuated as part of the response to the Berlin Blockade. (It didn't take
the Airlift staff long to observe that empty planes could evacuate refugees
more easily than overstuffed planes could feed them.) The camp may have
served other purposes as well.

I had several relatives who were housed there when they fled the post WWII
polish progroms and headed for territory held by the Allies. They were
first housed at Templehof in Berlin. Yes, after surviving in the Soviet
Union and then "going home to Poland", it did strike them as peculiar to be
heading to Berlin.

I can put you in contact with people who were there. Contact me privately.
I have no doubt that UNWRA had records, but I have no idea how you access
them.
