ROZALIMAS (RAZALINE) /BRUDNO #lithuania

kenneth zucker <kenneth.zucker@...>

Is anyone interested in the small shtetl of ROZALIMAS where my
wife's grandfather, ZUSSMAN BRUDNO, was Rabbi. He died in
1923.
We went there in July and found it largely untouched. We were
shown the Rabbi's house. Most exciting of all, the wooden
synagogue still stands, though it is now used as a barn. As nearly all
the wooden synagogues have been destroyed (and according to our
guide, CHAIM BARGMAN, the existence of this one has not been
recorded) it was quite a find.

Researching in addition to the above-
STEIN,WOLPERT, MENDILOVSKY - probably all of or near
SLABODKA (KAUNAS).

Inputters and proofers (Cyrillic and English) needed #lithuania

DNHIowa@...

In the true spirit of Yom Kippur, we must admit that we were a little
unrealistic regarding the time frame for our "All Lithuania" Database. Its
been a learning experience.

After a few false starts, and working on a totally new procedure, we finally
have the 1858 Siauliai Uyezd Revision List translations completed and ready
for input - more than 200,000 names - give or take 50,000!

Carol Coplin Baker has done a marvellous job in coordinating this group. Its
a good thing that she didn't know how much was involved before she started.
Actually, its a good thing none of us knew. Its an enormous job, and now that
the translations are finally here, we'd like to get our production line going
as efficiently as possible.

We have a very complete template, that covers all possibilities. Some of you
are already inputting as fast as you can. For this, we thank you - and
you'll be getting more as soon as your first assignments are sent back.

NOW, WE NEED EVERYONE ELSE TO HELP SPEED UP THE PROCESS!!

Remember, the sooner the Siauliai records go into the database, the sooner the
other Uyezds can be processed.

When you let us know how much you can comfortably handle, we'll send you a
sample of data input >from several of the shtetls, to help as a guideline.

On behalf of Anne Rothman, our database manager, I'm paraphrasing her letter
to the current inputters.

To get our data up and running, please get back to her with the following
information:

1) What is your basic ability with the computer? (Can you just type, can you
copy and paste etc.)

2) What type of Computer are you using (PC, MAC etc)??

3) What are your time constraints?? (Data entry should average out at about
35-40 names/hour.

4) What software programs do you have that you can enter data into??

5) If you have MicroSoft Word/Wordperfert -- Can you create a table??

6) Do you know how to use a template in either a spreadsheet or
wordprocessor??

7) What is your email package?? Can it accept attachments??

8) If you do not know what any of the verbage is above, don't worry about it.
Just answer what you can.

9) Can you proof translations?

10) Can you proof computer input?

Anne can be reached at:

Home Email: aroth@...
Work Email: ROTHMAN_ANNE_NONLILLY@...

or you can send the information to <Litvaks@...>

Thank you all for your patience in this long wait. We've all done the very
best we could, and hopefully, have streamlined the process so that future
projects will flow much more smoothly.

A very happy and healthy New Year to you all.

Gruskin #lithuania

ishplony@...

Dr Issroff, I don't know who contacted you either, but when they do: FYI
- A Rabbi Solomon Gruskin has lived in the Detroit, MI area (now Oak
Park, MI USA) since the early 1940's, and his family is originally from
Lithuania. He is now, I think, in his 80's (and is a treasure) if anyone
is interested. BTW, a gruskin is a "pear." A son, Rabbi Ephraim Gruskin
is head of a yeshiva in Perth Amboy, NJ.

Zalman Lachman New Hempstead, NY ishplony@...

Doing genealogical research on: LACHMAN(N), LEWIN, STEINBERG, RUBIN,
ROSENSTOCK,
FURSTENBERG, HOROWITZ, PRESSELL, MAZA, MAZO, DAVID families.

Subject: Gruskin
From: Dr Saul Issroff <saul@...>
Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1998 22:36:57 +0100

I have found the arrival records of Gruskin: Solomon, Sara, Dina,
Rochel
from Samogorodek to Port Elizabeth SA. Going to D. Gruskin ( son and
brother.) in 1927.
I cannot remember who asked me a few months ago about the Gruskin
family
in Addo, Eastern Cape.

records of donations to pre-state Israel #lithuania

Theo Travis <travis@...>

In a passage on my ancestral shtetl in Pinkas haKehillot Lita it mentions a
significant numbers of donors by 1923 to early settlements in Eretz Israel.
Would records of this type of donation be kept, in Israel or anywhere else?

Searching: DEVICK Family - Telsiai, Lithuania #general

SUMNER GRANBY <sumbar@...>

This is the first time I am writing for information and I hope someone
can help me.
I'm looking for my mother's half brothers. They were >from Telz (Now
known as Telsiai) in Lithuania. The last contact the family had
with them was in 1939 or 1940. The family name was DEVICK. Their
father Avram died in Telz in 1914. One of the brothers Maishel came to
the United States in about 1938. Went to Cuba and waited for a
visa so that he could stay in the United States. He became very
lonesome for his wife and small son and unfortunately, decided to
return to Europe. A cousin believes he went back on the Holland Line.
It was one of the last ships to return . Although many in the family
made attempts to find him (them) we were unable to find out what
their fate was..I'd say that they would have been born around 1910
give or take a few years. We wondered if they might have gone elsewhere,
Israel, China..Concentration camp survivors or just victims.
Any suggestions would be greatly apppreciated. Thanx..
Barbara

Dr.R. VIORAN, Chicago, IL circa 1913 #general

JackRobnsn@...

I have a picture of Dr. R. VIORAN and daughter addressed to 'Aunt and Uncle
Robinson' and dated February 10.1913. I would like to know who Dr. Vioran was because the Robinson's being addressed were my grandparents.

I would like to learn of the relationship because that would point the
direction for a sister of brother of one of my grandparents and I do not know of any.

David & Sidelle (SOMMER) NERENBERG #general

haflo <haflo@...>

I am looking for my cousin Leonard NERENBERG, who was originally from
Detroit, Michigan, but moved to Sacramento, California many years ago. He &
his late wife Nancy had about 4 children. (One daughter *may* have have
been named Nanette. I understand that a son became a rabbi.)
One of Leonard's sons is David NERENBERG, married to Sidelle SOMMER. They
have 3 children, Eliezer NERENBERG, Sasha Henya NERENBERG & Chana Anya
NERENBERG.
Would the person who submitted the information on Sidelle SOMMER's family
to the FTJP please contact me at my email address. I have information for you.
If anyone else recognizes these names & can help me locate my family, I'd
be very grateful.
