When I was a child, we would drive >from Buffalo,N.Y. to Chicago to visit
grandparents. On the way there was a store (possibly a small dept. store) in Ohio around Toledo that was called KROHN'S and my Dad would say that they were cousins but because of a family misunderstanding, we were not in touch with them. Does anyone know of this family or what happened to the store? It must have been in the 30's. You may reach me at RKE107@aol.com Thanks in advance. Rosann Krohn Epner Highland Park, IL. Greg <GMEYER@...>
Hi,
Looking for information on Jacob Joseph Taubenhaus b.1884 Safed and his wife Esther Hirschenson b.1885 Jerusalem. They founded the Hillel Club/Menorah Club at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in 1919(predating the U.of Illinois Hillel formation of 1923). Jacob is buried here in Texas, however, I have not been able to locate his wife's grave. According to her last Social Security payment she was probably with her daughter in San Francisco at her death in 1976. Jacob was head of the Plant Pathology group and did historic work combatting a devastating disease of cotton prevalent in the Southwest. Jacob had several brothers and sisters who seemed to have scattered across the earth. One branch I have contacted is now in South Africa, another brother was headmaster of a Jewish School in Belfast, Ireland, two other brothers worked in NYC at the time of Jacob's death in 1937. Jacob's father was Rabbi Meir Taubenhaus of Safed(d.1937) who married a Goldenbaum of Safed(one article I have seen says her family is descended from Rashi). I would love to flesh out the history of this fascinatingfamily for the TAMU Hillel Archives. TIA, cheers, Greg Meyer Biology Department Texas A&M University E-mail=gmeyer@bio.tamu.edu lab phone:409-845-8603

Looking for information on ancestors of Arthur JOSEPHSOHN, who was born
in Iserlohn, Germany, on Feb. 5th, 1884. He came to America about 1900-1910, settled in New York City where he married Lillian Solomon of England, and had four children. I have a "christening" certificate detailing his birth, which shows SALOMON as the middle name of his father....the rest is unreadable. The certificate shows a "job # 90" in the magistrate's registry, according to a local translator, and is dated Feb. 11th, 1884. My searches so far have not only failed to produce any Josephsohns at all, but have no references to the town of Iserlohn either. Not exactly a world crossroads, I guess.
