B'R on tombstone #general

Mike Lipsie <Mike_Lipsie@...>

I searched the JewishGen archives and found the question asked
before but not fully answered.

My father reports that his father's tombstone has my grandfather's
name followed by B'R Shemuel HaLevi (all in Hebrew, of course).

Just what is B'R an abbreviation for?

Is it an honorific or does it indicate that my ggf was a Rabbi?

I can give the exact Hebrew if desired but I thought this would
be enough. Especially given the amount of space needed to
write it out letter-by-letter.

Thanks for any help.

mBernet: I'm inclined to think it's "einzesh" = "once"
it could possibly (since you're looking at titles) be abbreviation for
Engineer.

Theresienstadt #general

Martha Lev-Zion <martha@...>

I would like to suggest for anyone interested in finding out about their
families who may have been interned in Terezin, that they contact the
following email address. For a paltry sum, they will send you a printed
sheet including: Family name, first name, maiden name, sex, birthdate,
country, last address, what transport the person took to Terezin, >from what
country and city, and if the person survived , was transported to another
camp [with details] or if the person died in Theresienstadt, the coroner's
death certificate number is often included.

Their address: bterezin@... or

http://www.cet.ac.il/terezin

I had no idea I had had so much family interned there until I received
the pages >from the Association.

Relations Please? #general

Len Pincus <lpincus@...>

Wow, before I could even read this mornings digest I already had about a
dozen answers to my relationship question including some jibes >from friends
in the San Diego JGS. I'm really not that lazy it's just that I feel like I
disconnected my brain when I retired after 40 years as an engineer.

Anyhow thanks to all the Jewishgenners out there who tried to answer my
question. Surprisingly enough not everyone had the same answer but the
consensus seems to be second cousin once removed.

Again THANKS for all the inputs.

Re: Jewish Daily Forward #general

beth wellington <bjwellington@...>

Traci:

A search of YAHOO shows that the phone number is 1-800-849-1825.
The address is 45 E 33rd Street
New York, NY 10016

There are two web pages:

http://www.forward.com (for the paper itself)
http://www.wynn.com/jewish/forward.html (for a bulletin board which
lists contact address

The paper is now a weekly and published in English.

Hope this helps!

I just found out the most incredible story about how my grandmother

My uncle tells me that the publication is still in existence in NYC.
I
tried for an hr today on the internet at work to find a listing,
internet
address, web page anything, but was unsucessful. Is there anyone in
NY
who would be willing to look up an address for the Jewish Daily
Forward
or a way of contacting them? Maybe they are owned by another
company.
Does anyone have any info. or suggestion?
Any help would be appreciated.
