LEVIN and KLOR in Tashkent #general

Sheldon Clare <clare+@...>

I recently discovered that during WWI, my great-grandfather Tzvi Hirsh
LEVIN(originally SHER) and his family went >from Lithuania to Tashkent.
On the way, my grandmother Zelda Levin KLOR died and was buried in
Penza. Tzvi Hirsh apparently remarried.
Does anyone have any information about the Jews who were forced to leave
Lithuania furing WWI and ended up in Tashkent?

Hi: I am searching for a friend. His grgrandfather was Mysen FORMAN from
Russia.
Do not know the town. Hoping that someone out there is searching a FORMAN
family. They eventually settled here in Denver Colorado. His grgrandfather was
naturalized here in Colorado.

If this rings a bell to anyone, please email me.

Moderator's Note: When searching for other researchers who are also
looking for your same surnames or town locations, you should first go
to the JewishGen Family Finder search engine at
<http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/> and enter your surname and/or location.
If anyone else is doing similar research, you will be presented with the
researcher's name, address, and in many cases their e-mail address. A
search of Forman >from Belarus turned up five different researchers.

Country Study of Belarus

Belarus, as an independent nation, is a recent addition to the
nation-states of the world. Also known as White Russia in earlier times,
this country study illuminates the complex history, economy, politics,
and culture of this new east European nation. Created by the Library of
Congress as a resource for researchers, it was completed in 1995. This
database contains a wealth of information which, although not a list of
names like most databases posted by Ancestry.com, can be a great aid to
understanding the larger culture in which ancestors lived.

Rabbi Stern's 10 genealogy commandments #general

Bernard Kouchel <koosh@...>

Rabbi Malcolm H. Stern, (c1916-1994) was widely considered to be the
dean of American Jewish genealogy.

He wrote many articles for genealogical and historical
publications. His best-known book, "Americans of Jewish Descent: 600
Genealogies (1654-1988)," documents the genealogies of Jewish families
that arrived during the American colonial and federal periods
(1654-1838), tracing many families to the present.

He also authored "10 Commandments For Genealogists". Would someone please
post that or e-mail a copy?

Thanks!

Regarding Allan Katz's posting about multiple burials in Europe: I
attended a funeral of a Jewish relative who was buried in US Veteran's
cemetery (I believe near Riverside, California), and was surprised that
she was buried in a multiple stacked grave, not side by side. I found
it very strange. Is this customary in veteran's cemeteries?
