To all JewishGen staff,

I want to take a personal moment on this "Thanksgiving Day," to thank all of
the dedicated staffers at JewishGen for all the hard work that all of you
perform on a daily basis.

I recently received 14 Polish Records >from my family's town of Pultusk. After
promptly having them translated, I and relative >from Israel, New York, New
Jersey, & Michigan have been mesmerized by their contents. Not only by
information about my family menders, but in addition, I have been pleased to
pass on information to non-family researchers upon noticing their family names
on JewishGen's list of researchers also studying Pultusk. The documents in
addition to my family information show profession and ages of each witness, in
addition to their signature.

Your decoction has created a truly wonderful experience for myself and my
family.

Thank you again, and please continue with your efforts.

To all JewishGen subscribers.....send in the checks.....there is no better

I am looking for publication and information about the town of Sade
Laban or White Field.
It is written in the Encyclopedia of Hahamei Galitzia by Meir Wunder.
Thanks Ruben Weiser, Buenos Aires, Argentina.>
My answer is:
In the journal "Reshumot" volume 6 Tel Aviv 1930 page 363, write Shelomo
Rabinovitz in a article about names that :

"The name SODELOWON come >from the name Sade Lawan ,and Sade Lawan is a
nickname for the Town Bila-Tserkva in the Kiev gubernya in the Ukraine .And
in the Jewish vernacular the town was know as the "Shewarze Tumme". and it
mean the black impurity "

The town Bila-Tserkva is located 74 kilometer (46 Miles) Ssw to Kiev, Ukraine.
Latitude 49" 48' North
Longitude 30" 7' East

And Mr Shelomo Rabinovitz give a explanation for the nickname Sade Lawan: it
come >from the Talmud and mean: a white corn field without a tree that give
shadow ( Shewieit, Phe Beth 82 ).

I thing it is nice to see what Jewish people do with names, the Jewish
scholars or other give to the town a nickname Sade Lawan (White field)
named after the big corn fields in the Ukraine but for the common people it
was the black earth and the dirty and a morality place and the called it
"Shewarze Tumme " (black impurity). It is only my hypothesis in this case
and I hope that I am on the good way with the explanation of Sade Lawan.I
don't know the book Encyclopedia of Chachamei Galizia so I am not sure that
we spiking on the same town that you writ about it.
