Research dead end ... any suggestions? #general

Jeanne Gold <JeanneGold@...>

Dear Jewishgenners,

I've come to an impasse with my great-grandfather, not being able to find
his siblings or confirm his parents.

After reading the following, maybe someone could suggest some other avenues
where I might find information about this man.

Starting with his name:
Intent to Naturalize: Abraham Max Goldgleet, changed to Max Gold
Wife's intent to Naturalize: Anderov Goldgleat
Everything else: Max Gold

His parents:
On his tombstone, it says (in Hebrew) he's the son of Isaac. On his SS5
(filled out by his daughter-in-law), his father's name is Pinkus Gold. As
far as anyone knows, his father didn't come to the states.

Timeline as I can best construct:
1888-1890: born in Amdour, Grodno, Belarus
1903-1908: came to the states, port of NY
Aug 1912: married and first son born, Columbus, OH
Apr 1915: living in Los Angeles, CA (2nd child born)

What I've done so far:
Marriage records: none found in Columbus or Cleveland, OH, 1907-1912.
Passenger records: don't exist (nor were they found when he filed for
Intent to Naturalize)
Birth records: I have for all his children with no further useful
information.
Other records checked:
1920 Los Angeles, CA (found)
1910 OH (nothing)
1905 NY Directory (nothing)
1900 OH (nothing)
1900 NY (nothing)

While seeking mine, I found another Gold (Goldglied, Goldgleit, Goldglid)
family. Several factors which suggest these
families might be related, but I've also hit an impasse on finding any more
about them (except for further descendants, wives, etc.)

(FAMILY TREE NOT POSTED BY MODERATOR DUE TO LENGTH OF POST)

Any suggestions on where next to proceed would be really, really appreciated.

Thanking everyone in advance ...
Regards,
Jeanne Gold

Steven Chall <steven.chall@...>

Abe,

My SSDI disk shows a Berry BERCHENKO born 11 Dec 1909 who died in May
1990. Social Security # 015-07-8825 was issued in Massachusetts.
If this matches your cousin, maybe you can take the next step.

Searching: SRAGOVICH/FAITELEVICH/FYTELSON from Belarus #general

anthony_lewis@...

In my researches of my SCHLEIFSTEIN (SHLIFSHTEIN) family from
Belarus (Nesvizh and other areas of Minsk and Wilna goberniyee), I
find a SRAGOVICH family living in the same domicile with my family
for quite some time. Feldblyum's book on Jewish names indicates
that Faivel or Faitel were kinnuim of Shrago, so it is possible
that the FAITELEVICHs who married into my SHLIFSHTEINs might be
closely related to (or the same family as) the SRAGOVICHs.
Please contact me if any of these names might be related to you.

Thanks,

Tony Lewis

Restution of Private property (land and Buildings) #poland

DC <dcinotti@...>

What is the process for the restitution of privately owned buildings and
property (land) taken during wartimes. After the war my grandfather and gr.
uncle inquired and were told by Polish officials to return to Poland. Out of
fear they did not. What is the process today?

Many Thanks

JRI-Poland now a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. #poland

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland

The Board of Jewish Records Indexing - Poland is pleased to announce
several developments that will make it even easier for you to continue to
provide the financial support that -- along with the work of many of you
in Shtetl CO-OPs -- has marked an exciting year for the growth of our
organization.

First, Jewish Records Indexing-Poland, Inc. has been granted
tax-exempt status as a 501 (c)(3) organization. Effective immediately,
contributions by U.S. citizens are now tax deductible in the U.S.

Second, to help facilitate contributions, JRI-Poland is also pleased
to advise that Visa credit card facilities are now available. We are
particulary pleased to offer this convenience to JRI-Poland supporters
from around the world who do not have ready access to U.S. Dollar
accounts or facilities.

As we draw close to Rosh Hashana and are reminded to look back
on the past year, many of us can look back on our last year of research
with great satisfaction. If searches on JRI-Poland's database have
played a role in the research successes you have had, this is a good
time to make a financial contribution to help us get more records into
our databases and bring about more successes for you and hundreds
of other researchers.

As we continue to add Shtetl CO-Ops and to index more records under
the PSA Project, your contribution will help JRI-Poland's database grow.

Make your contribution today! Of course, you may still mail a check.
But if you choose to use your Visa card, here's how:

1. Print the Visa form on the JRI-Poland web site at
<A HREF="www.jewishgen.org/jri-">http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl
</A>
2. Telephone your contribution to Treasurer, Sheila Salo at the number
below. (Only between the hours of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern
Daylight/Standard Time, please.)
3. Print out and mail/fax the form below. Please scroll down.
