Budapest directories Translations please. #hungary

CASHEL3776@...

I am so proud of the results of the Budabest directories that Janos did. I
reconize my G-ggfather, his brother and some of the brothers family. However I
can't translate any of it including the descriptions of the directories. I
wonder if someone with the ability to translate would help me out here. I was
one lucky enough to have family in each of the directories. Again Thanx Janos.

My family surname is GARTENFELD if someone is able to help out here. Can trade
US research. I know my way through the WWI registrations, most ships lists,
census records and live in the capital of Nevada for Marriage, death and birth
records. I also have access to almost all of the cemetery records of Nevada.
Or can translate >from Galic (Irish) to English I just know I'll get a lot of
requests for that one, LOL).

This is the site with the records on them.

Thanx all. For the ones celebrating Thanksgiving, I'm full, but at least I got
all my dishes done, and all 8 grandchildren have gone to bed. Hope you had a
Happy and safe one.

Thank you to Diane for sharing the experience of your trip with us.
It was very thoughtful of you to take the time to write about it. I am so
glad to have had the opportunity to read what you wrote.

Tonight, is the end of Thankgiving here in the USA. On an optimistic note,
with all that is going on in the world, I still find much to be thankful
for-- Thank G-D! I am also thankful for the wonderful people on this list!

Good evening,

Heartfelt thanks to everyone to answered me. You are an awesome group. I
can't believe the number of wonderful responses we've received. Although my
mother-in-law managed to find someone on her own, your replies have opened
some new connections, and we appreciate the help immensely.

I'm discovering that we've all been touched by the Holocaust in very
personal ways, even we think we think it was some horrible event that
happened to other families.

Thanks again,

Rita

In response to my message on the Litvak SIG Digest
mentioning the Kelme Directory, Feige sent me a message
with the following questions. I thought the answers might
be of general interest:

I saw your letter re: the Kelme directory in the
LitvakSIG digest. Do you have it? What is it
exactly? Are there people >from all over
Lithuania on it? My family was >from Rassein,
Kedainiai, and Shadova.
Any chance I might find some of my family on that list?
The Kelme Directory is a list of Jewish residents of
Kelme, Lithuania over the last 300 years. The names come
from many sources--vital and tax records, newspapers, books,
bank records, etc., and the directory indicates where you
can get more information. The list is available to be searched
on the Web, and I have a copy on my home computer. Since
Rassein, Kedainiai, and Shadova are neighboring towns, and
there was much travel within Lithuania for weddings and
business, there is a chance that your relatives may have
been recorded in Kelme at some time.

What are the Revision Lists? When you say the vilna archives do you mean
something in Vilnius or something online?

I would appreciate hearing >from anyone to whom the Lithuanian family name

PAGAMANSKY has meaning. I am particularly interested in a family of that

name who were known to be living in Kovno (Kaunas) 100+ years ago. Members

of this family later lived in Cardiff and elsewhere in South Wales (UK).

There is a town spelled Smorgon located in Belarus. It is northwest of Minsk,
roughly equidistant >from Minsk and Vilna and spelled Smarhon on modern maps.
Oshmyany sounds alot like Osmanya which is a town mentioned by my family which
comes >from Smorgon, Belarus.
Please get in touch with me.
In Melbourne there is a Smoron Family - very large and wealthy - who I
think goes >from that villiage - Smorgon Industries

I'm only interested if the surname LYAKOHITSKY is in any of the records. My
grandmother was Malka LYAKOHITSKY and she was born in Slutsk. I just assume
the family must have been originally >from Lachowicze.
