Searching: Norman BERLIN from Hamburg/London #general

Judith Wolkovitch <102444.44@...>

I am searching for the descendants of Norman BERLIN who married Martha
SANDHEIM. Norman came >from Hamburg but married in ENGLAND. There were at
least two sons Isaac J. BERLIN born around 1870 and Leopold BERLIN born
around 1875. The sons were born in London. I would be most grateful for
any information.

Thanking you,

Judy Wolkovitch (nee Horowicz)

N.Y.C.E.D. responses #general

Dear one and all

Thanks you for the numerous responses in regards 1885 and 1910 census
information.

I have one more question though. When you say SOUNDEX. I know it is a way of
looking up a name or names similar in sound. What I do not understand is, how
you use it. Is it a program you run or What?

Without going into great detail, can you explain please.

Thanks

Is there a NE'EMAN family that was NEIMAN/NAIMAN (or similar) from Poland? #general

Stan Goodman <sheol@...>

As you can see >from the signature block below, NEJMAN is one of the major
names in my family background. (NEJMAN and NAJMAN, or with I instead of J,
are all the same name.)

A common surname in Israel is Ne'eman (meaning "Faithful"). I wonder if any
(or all, for that matter) of the bearers of this name have Hebraicized one
of the above names to produce this surname, and if their families originate
in Poland, specifically in Lomza Gobernia.

I would be grateful for any information that might lead me to members of my
family that did not emigrate to the US at the end of the last century, but
who made it to Israel more recently.

Book on Borisov #belarus

David M. Fox <fox@...>

Dear Borisov Researchers:

I received the following message which I think would be of interest to
you:

Subject: book on Borisov

Received: 9/26/98 9:45 PM
From: Rav Eliyahu Tavger, eliyahu@tekhelet.co.il
To: Risa Heywood, risah@ibm.net
David Fox, fox@erols.com

Dear Coordinators of Belarus SIG,

You probably already heard of Mr. Alexander Rosenbloom, a citizen of
Borisov
(who lives now in Israel). He has for the past eight years been busy
gathering information on the Jews of Borisov and has put out several
pamphlets on the subject. It can maybe be said of him that today he is
the
biggest expert on the history of the Jews of Borisov and its surroundings.

Recently, he typed into the computer a full book summarizing all of his
knowledge and wants very much to publish it (in Russian). He needs for
this
$1000 and has asked for my help in this. I want to ask you whether you
have
an idea of support for this important project and if it is worth investing
in an English translation.

Sincerely,
Eliyahu Tavger
