In message #10, Sept.17, 1998, Gayle Riley asked about finding Yitchuck
Gutvein, the author of "Memory of my Shtetl, Dzkow." I can't help her with
that search except to tell her to write to Elsa Drezner who just might know,
since she lives in France and only a month ago asked Jewishgenners about the
book. Perhaps she has learned about the author and his family since then. Her

since checked JewishGen's Yizkor Book Project and found out that there is a
yizkor book (in Hebrew) for Dnepropetrovsk, which is what Ekaterinoslav was
called in Soviet times. I wonder if a listing of names for that Yizkor book
exists in English, or if that is something that it would be appropriate for
BelarusSIG to pursue further.

of the respondents, Gene Shiller, replied about his CHERNIN relatives. (I've
cc'ed this to Gene) Yaakov TAVGER (1860-1938), my grandfather's older brother,
was married to a Sima Lea CHERNIN (d. 1925). Yaakov's son Aharon TAVGER was
married to a Raya (Rachel) CHERNIN (1900-1983), probably a cousin of his
mother's. Aharon's son Ben-Tzion Tavger was a leading dissident physicist in
the Soviet Union who later emigrated to Israel and led the efforts to restore
the old Jewish sites in Hebron. I am now in regular communication with two of
Ben-Tzion's sons.

Yesterday's New York Times (September 17) contained an article on the
Beigel Family of Crakow. They were well known bakers in Crakow, Poland
and the surviving members of the family emigrated to the USA after the
Shoah and continue to be very successful in this profession. The
article contains some memories of life in Crakow during the war.

Thought this might be of interest to some.

When placing your request, you need to ensure that you provide the card

use the traditional methods of paying which I'm sure will less
convenient and more costly than using a credit card.
