You should note that Jewish marriage certificates can only be issued by the
Synagogue holding the Marriage register that is unless the regulations have been
recently changed

Summary of Hollywood Chai AJGS conference #general

Louis Schonfeld <lmagyar@...>

To all attendees of the 18th annual AJGS conference.

I'll be giving a talk to the Cleveland JGS summarizing this past summer's
annual conference in Los Angeles. While I'm nearly complete with the
organization of my presentation there is still room for additional items.
Obviously, during the conference I could only be in one location at any one
time. Therefore, if sometime has already prepared a summary talk or written
about the same topic, I would appreciate receiving some or all the notes
that you may have. I assure you I will not plagiarize nor use the material
verbatim. I am only looking for information that I might have missed. Your
kindness and generosity is appreciated. If I could receive the information
no later than this Sunday, it would be appreciated. Please send to me
privately at lmagyar@en.com

Found: Tracie SCHNEIDER #general

NFatouros@...

Dear People,

Some months ago I posted a message asking whether anyone knew the
whereabouts of Tracie Schneider who had posted a message several years ago
asking about a Senia Solomonoff, a ballet dancer. I received no responses.

Quite by chance, I had discovered her 1994 message in the Jewishgen
message archives, after I done quite a lot of research for a Vitaly Kanevsky,
who wrote to Jewishgen about a year and a half ago. (He is the gentlemen from
Kiev who said he wanted to be able to go to his grandmother's grave to tell
her he had done everything possible to find her brothers.)

Although my messages to Tracie Schneider did not bounce, she never
responded to my puzzlement. To no avail, I tried long distance telephoning
to her, Then I asked the support team at Jewishgen for help, as I wanted
very much to link up Tracie Schneider and Vitaly. Although Tracie in her 1994
message had some incorrect information about Senia Solomonoff, I was certain
that she and Vitaly were related.

Today, thanks to those members of the Jewishgen support team, who
clearly made a real effort to find her, I received today a message >from Tracie
Schneider, now Mrs. Ben Green, telling me how interested she was in the
information I had found, and how glad she was that Jewishgen had found her.

And to think that two years ago I didn't even know about Jewishgen's
existence!

Rabbinical families genealogy #general

IsraelP <p2o5rock@...>

There are numerous collections and sources in Hebrew, among which I have
found Meir Wunder's "Meorei Galitzia" invaluable for rabbinical families
with roots in Galicia.
Also Atlas Etz Hayyim, which has an index by names of publications.

Taverns in Poland #general

IsraelP <p2o5rock@...>

For those who inquired about taverns in Poland.

There is a small book in Hebrew ,printed in Warsaw 1898, written by
Yehudah Leib Lipkind (of Borisov) called "HaShetiyya KaDat" all about
wine. How to make it, how to get a license to sell it, etc etc etc.
I've seen it at the Hebrew U Library and it may be available
elsewhere. (I have the catalogue number somewhere, if it helps.)

Does anyone know anything about a tavern or inn in Sanok, Poland? Someone
onced mentioned that my father's family(NADELSTEICHER) might have owned
one. This would be in the early 1900's.

Thank you,

I received a private note >from Jane Lowenkron asking if there were any
special tax records in respect of alcohol sales.

I've checked again in Suzan Wynne's book, and I can't find anything about
tax records, though there is a section on taxes which talks of taxes on
Jewish marriages and tax evasion. I also see that the big exodus between
1880 and 1910 is blamed on floods, famines and a series of epidemics, and
it was not only Jews who were leaving Galicia at that time.
