Russian Characters - Teraspol listing #general

Arline and Sidney Sachs <sachs@...>

Miriam Weiner just sent me 55 printed pages of names of burials in Teraspol,
Transnistra region between Ukraine and Moldova. Unfortunately the names are
written in Russian Characters, so I need some volunteers to retype the
information. There are basically 6 columns of data:
cemetery plot location
3 columns of words which I assume are first name, last name and ?
date of birth
date of death
If someone can scan this data and then can make it change that would be a
great help,
but I don't know any way to do that.

I hope someone can type this to help the cemetery project.

Thanks, Arline

problem with mapquest maps #general

Howard and Annette Lackman <hlack@...>

Need help with a problem printingmaps >from the shtetlseeker/mapquest.
When I click on the coordinates after finding a shtetl, I get a map with
a red star designating the shtetl--this map is surrounded by all sorts
of browser graphics which I do not wish to print. When I click on
"printable map," I get a map sans all the browser graphics, but also
sans the identifying red star. Does anyone know how I can get the red
star to print?

ukaraine and birth records #general

Sanford Skansky <sanford@...>

First of all has any body heard of Shetl by the name of Dokczyce or
something similar. The peson that told me about this shetl said it was
near Minsk. She said it might be Polish. Not being up on my geography
I assume Minks is close to the polish border.

My other question is about birth records. My grandfather was born in
1889 in Nikolaeve in the Ukraine. Did they even keep birth records back
then and if so would they still be there and how would one obtain a
birth certificate if there is one.

Dear Jose:

. I can't find it either. We were always told my grandfather, Jacob Freuer,
came >from there
( Stavisk, Stawiski), and it was close to Lomza and since when he came to
US he joined Ostrolenka Society, suppose that was "largest" town near by
with benevelant organization. Others >from JRI-Poland said town of Stawiski
was completely obliterated by both WWs and nothing is left. If you find
something let me know.

Is anyone aware of any LDS films for Stawiski, Poland (in
Lomza, gubernia)?

I didn't find that town listed at all among the many towns
in the LDS list at the JRI-Poland site.
