Date

census, 1910 #general

Dianne W. Feldman <103531.1002@...>

I have a 1910 census for Maryland in front of me. The headings for columns
30, 31 and 32 are:

(30) Whether survivor Union, Confederate Army or Navy

(31)Whether blind(both eyes)

(32) Whether deaf and dumb

Some of the people in this census have the columns filled in with numerals
or with an x. The responses in the columns are 1-0-0 or 3-x-0. What do
these responses mean?

I too have written ti L'VIV and I also got the same response as you..."
They they send the bill with the information, and dont ask you in advance
whether or not you want to pay for it, they use Bankers Trust Co in
NY...acct 04 094 040 and they write in Russian, though they dont mind if
YOU write in English...their copies are a bit hard to read..I got a birth
record of my uncle, 1900 + stating that they have +/- 30 other records.
I've sent a U.S. dollar check to Bankers Trust in New Jersey and >from the
translated Ukrainian I got I do hope I receive information on the other 30
document. They invoiced me $70.00 U.S. dollars.
Question: Did you make payment of the invoice and get info on the 22 people
mentioned?
I just mailed it about 2 weeks ago and I'm waiting for a response. I must
say that the info on my ggm side was accurate as to a maiden name that I
did not mention in my original request. So, maybe I'll get lucky. On the
documents it mentioned the number of a building where my uncle was born,
but NO address of Street. Was the same true on your info/document??? .Other
relatives listed on other documents (birth, marriage, & death cert.) I
received >from L'VOV Ukraine only indicate a building number (again no
address).

Looking forward to any kind of response,
Very truly yours,

NY Help wanted #general

Gary Luke <feraltek@...>

Could someone with access to NY shipping arrival lists please help. We
don't have USA references in Sydney Australia.

The GELLERT arrived in NYC on 28 Sept 1975 >from Hamburg & Havre, with Simon
KREIELSHEIMER >from Rheinbischofsheim on board.

The MAIN arrived NYC 23 May 1873 >from Bremen & Southampton, with Alexander
KREILSHEIMER on board.

I would like to know what the lists have about these two, and whether
others of the same name or >from the town of RHEINBISCHOFSHEIM in Baden were
also on board. Also what date the ships departed >from Hamburg and Bremen.

Thank you someone, please.

How does one go about contacting government archives in the Ukraine or

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Patience. I have found the wait to be around 3 months. They appear to
operate on a first come, first serve basis, and they also appear to be a
bit understaffed.

Cheers,

I'd just like to thank all the people who responded to my
question on length of time for SSDI & NARA requests. Ironically,
my NARA reply came the day after I posted (it said that they
couldn't find any info on what I requested, tho'). I'm still
waiting on my SSDI, and >from what I see, such a request requires
patience!

Re: Sean FERGUSON story #general

skolto@...

Here's the story I heard about my family name:

Back in Baranovich, in Belorus, my grandfather was the youngest of several
brothers and sisters. His older brothers got visas to come to the US,
and when they arrived here they shortened the family name, Zelmanofsky,
to Zeller (a branch of the family in Buenos Aires is called Selman).
When my grandfather's turn came, he got a visa to go to England, not to
the US. When he got to London, he met a man named Fineberg who wanted to
stay there, but his visa was for the US. So, the story goes, they simply
traded visas and passports, assuming the family name of the other.

I have my doubts about this, but so goes the story. I always tell my kids,
as a joke, that we're here illegally....we could be sent packing back to
Baranovich at any time! ^_^

Hi,

My father died in Paterson NJ in August of 1946. I have his Social

Is there a date before which deaths have not yet been included in the

I believe that the SSDI starts in about 1962. Certainly 1946 is before
the beginning date.
